Provided by scarley

Categories     Fruit

Time 20m

Yield 18 figs, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

19 fresh ripe small figs, about 1 . 25 lbs
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup part-skim ricotta cheese
1/4 cup natural almonds, toasted and chopped

Steps:

  • Mash the ripest fig on a plate with the honey, using a fork; set aside.
  • Trim stems from remaining figs with a sharp knife, then cut a deep "X" in the top of each, making sure not to cut all the way through to the bottom. Gently spread each fig apart with your fingertips to make "petals."
  • Combine ricotta cheese and almonds in a small bowl. Press mashed fig mixture through a sieve into a cup with the back of a spoon.
  • To serve, spoon ricotta mixture into figs. Arrange on a platter and drizzle with fig honey.

FRESH FIGS BAKED

Fresh Figs Baked image

Easy fresh fig recipe. Can be used as appetizer, side dish, or dessert... or all three! I could eat figs three times a day, I only wish the season were longer. I changed the amount of Gorgonzola for the figs, as I believe the review I recently got was right... too strong for the fig. It read 6 tablespoons before I changed it. I believe 1/2 teaspoon per fig would be better. As would less port be better.

Provided by Sweetiebarbara

Categories     Dessert

Time 25m

Yield 6 figs, 3 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

6 figs (fresh)
3 teaspoons gorgonzola (or other blue cheese)
2 tablespoons ruby port

Steps:

  • Preheat oven while fixing figs.
  • Cut stems and a small portion of top off figs.
  • Score tops crosswise.
  • Place figs in shallow glass dish small enough to keep them close together.
  • Fill each with a half teaspoon of the Gorgonzola cheese.
  • Poor ruby port into dish.
  • Bake 350 degrees for 15 minutes, or until cheese melts.

  • Bacon-Wrapped Figs. Figs and bacon are a match made in heaven—the sweet and salty complement each other beautifully—and this recipe is a perfect example of how simple is best.
  • Blue Cheese-Stuffed Figs. This tasty appetizer looks like you spent a lot of time preparing it, but all you need is just 10 minutes to assemble and cook.
  • Figs in Spiced Syrup. When you have figs that aren't as sweet as you'd expect, it's a good idea to cook them in a sweet syrup and make them almost preservelike, perfect for adding them to pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, or pairing with cheese.
  • Fig Coulis. This recipe for fig coulis is good on pretty much anything. Spread it on bread to add a sweet note to sandwiches, use it to top focaccia and add nuts and a drizzle of honey, serve it on the side with roasted meats, including your next holiday turkey, or put it on a charcuterie plate.
  • Fig Crostini. This pretty appetizer never gets old, as it has many variations. Start with tossed figs in olive oil and balsamic, and place on top of warm crusty baguette.
  • Honey-Fried Figs. These chewy and sticky figs are a delicious dessert by themselves but can be included in other preparations as well. They are also simple to make—just mix honey, butter, and figs in a pan, cook until soft, and serve hot.
  • Figs in Brandy. This flavorful dessert would be the ideal grand finale at any dinner party. Fresh figs are cooked in a simple syrup until soft and then drizzled with a spiced brandy and sherry sauce.

  • Fig Jam With Wine and Balsamic Vinegar. If you have a surplus of figs, this recipe will come in handy. The flavor from the red wine and balsamic vinegar make this jam perfect for cheese plates and preparations with pork and game meats.
  • Fresh Fig Jam. Homemade fresh fig jam is wonderful for spreading on crostini, adding to cheese boards, and folding into sauces and dressings. Even better, it is as easy as simmering figs, sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest until the mixture reaches the gel stage, which is just over an hour.
