GRILLED FRENCH TOAST SKEWERS WITH BANANAS AND HONEY

Grilled French Toast Skewers with Bananas and Honey image

Provided by Food Network

Time 8h20m

Yield 2 to 3 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/2 loaf brioche, cut into 1- to 2-inch cubes
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
4 large eggs
4 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Kosher salt
Nonstick cooking spray
2 bananas, halved lengthwise
Grapeseed or canola oil, for brushing
Honey or maple syrup, for serving

Steps:

  • Thread 6 brioche cubes onto each skewer, leaving 1/4 inch of space between cubes; leave out overnight to dry.
  • Prepare a grill for medium-high heat. Whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, butter, sugar, cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a baking dish; soak the skewers in the mixture for 5 minutes, turning as needed.
  • Spray a large piece of foil with cooking spray and place it on one side of the grill grate. Lay the skewers on the foil, leaving about an inch of space between them. Grill, covered, turning occasionally, until golden, 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, brush the bananas with oil and place cut-sides down on the other side of the grill grate (not on the foil). Cook, turning as needed, until golden and covered in grill marks, 3 to 5 minutes. Serve the skewers and bananas drizzled with honey.

Provided by Bobby Flay

Categories     dessert

Time 20m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 ripe bananas, sliced
12 slices whole-wheat bread
1 cup chocolate-hazelnut spread (recommended: Nutella)
16 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Place the bananas in a bowl and mash until smooth.
  • Place the slices of bread on a flat surface and spread each slice with some of the hazelnut spread. Spread the mashed banana over 6 of the slices and combine the slices to make 6 sandwiches.
  • Heat the grill to medium-high.
  • Spread 1 side of each sandwich with some of the butter and place on the grill, buttered-side down. Grill until golden brown. Spread the remaining butter on the bread facing up, flip over and continue grilling until golden brown. Remove from the grill and sprinkle with the confectioners' sugar. Eat immediately.

GRILLED BANANAS

Categories     dessert

Time 17m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 bananas (not too ripe)
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons honey
Vanilla ice cream, for serving
Bourbon or other liqueur, for drizzling, optional

Steps:

  • Build a charcoal fire or preheat a gas grill.
  • Slice the bananas, in their skins, in half crosswise and then lengthwise so each banana yields 4 pieces. Set aside on a clean platter. In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon. Drizzle the honey on the cut sides of the bananas and sprinkle them with the cinnamon sugar. Let the bananas sit for 5 minutes.
  • Place the bananas, cut side down, on the center of grill. Grill for 2 minutes or until grill marks appear. Using a pair of tongs, turn them over and cook for 5 more minutes, or until the skin pulls away from the bananas. Remove the bananas from the grill and serve them immediately, on top of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with bourbon or liqueur, if desired.

EASY BANANA FRENCH TOAST

Easy Banana French Toast image

This is a simple and quick way to use those still good but aesthetically non-pleasing week-old bananas. I like to use a less dense, lighter bread with this recipe, like normal sandwich bread.

Categories     Breakfast

Time 15m

Yield 6 slices

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 banana
1 egg
1 pinch ground cloves
1 pinch ground ginger

  • Cook both sides until done.
