BUTTERMILK FRENCH TOAST

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 200°F.
- Whisk together buttermilk, eggs, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Pour into a large 4-sided sheet pan, then add bread in 1 layer and soak, turning occasionally, until bread has absorbed all liquid but is not falling apart, about 20 minutes.
- Heat 1 1/2 tablespoon butter in a 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until foam subsides. Transfer 4 bread slices with a slotted spatula to skillet and cook, turning once, until slightly puffed and golden brown, about 3 minutes total. Transfer to a large shallow baking pan and keep warm in oven. Cook remaining bread in 2 batches, adding 1 1/2 tablespoon butter between batches.
FRENCH TOAST BUTTERMILK SYRUP
This french toast syrup is served here locally in utah at a restaurant called Magleby's. It is SO delicious! I couldn't find it on here so I thought I'd share! Enjoy!

Steps:
- Bring first four ingredients to a boil. Boil for 3 to 4 minutes. Add vanilla and baking soda.
- Can store in fridge for 2 - 3 weeks. Reheat in microwave.
- This can be served with other things besides french toast like waffles, crepes and ice cream!

This was my grandma's most coveted recipe and we had it every time we went there. This is always a special treat and French toast with this syrup is one of my favorite breakfasts!

- Heat sugar, buttermilk, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat until mixture starts to boil, about 5 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat and stir baking soda and vanilla into buttermilk mixture.

- Beat eggs.
- Beat in buttermilk, almond extract and seasonings.
- Dip bread in batter, turning to coat both sides, and cook on a lightly oiled skillet until both sides are golden.
- Delicious topped with apple sauce, powdered sugar or syrup.
CREME BRULEE FRENCH TOAST WITH BUTTERMILK SYRUP
This came from Studio 5 and sounds great. I might even just make the syrup for pancakes. Prep time doesn't include letting this set overnight.

- In a small saucepan melt butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup over medium heat until smooth, stirring occasionally. Pour mixture onto large, greased jelly roll pan (18x13x1). Spread to cover surface. Place 12 slices Texas toast bread in a single layer to cover pan. Mix together Eggs, cream, salt, and vanilla . Spon mixture over each piece of bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered at 350°F for about 30 minutes. Remove from pan and serve. If not serving immediately, turn each slice of bread over (this will prevent bread from sticking to the bottom of the pan).
- To make syrup: Mix all ingrediaents except vanilla and heat in saucepan to boiling. Boil 5 minutes stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add vanilla.

- In a bowl, whisk egg until well beaten. Using a sieve, strain eggs to remove any large chunks. Then add remaining ingredients to the eggs, whisk until well combined. Transfer custard to a large baking dish (around (9"x13") for soaking the pieces.
- Prepare a baking sheet by placing a wire cooling rack over top. Place bread slices into custard batter, soak for 30-40 seconds per side. Place soaked bread slices onto the wire rack that is over top of a baking sheet. Allow bread to rest on racks for around 5 minutes, while you preheat your pan.
- Preheat a large frying pan. When hot, add ½ tbsp of butter and ½ tbsp of oil. When butter has melted and bubbles have dissipated, add bread slices (do not overcrowd the pan). Cook about 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
