SPICY MEAT RUB

Spicy Meat Rub image

A beautiful red spice mix with a kick, this spice combo is good as a general purpose taco seasoning replacement or as a meat rub. Works best with pan fried or grilled chicken or steak, but should be good with pork, lamb, or anything else that breathes air. Would also be good sprinkled over pasta or added to steamed vegetables. To add more of a kick replace one part ground black pepper with one part cayenne pepper.

Provided by GenYChef

Categories     Mexican

Time 5m

Yield 1 1/2 cup glass jar, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 tablespoons dried thyme
2 tablespoons fresh coarse ground black pepper
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon Hungarian paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Mix ingredients together.
  • Store spice mix in a glass jar in a cool, dark place for up to 4 months (begins to lose flavor after 4th month).
  • Shake over food liberally in the last 5 minutes of cooking time. This ensures the spices have time to heat-activate but don't break down.

FAVORITE BLACKENED RUB

Favorite Blackened Rub image

I took a rub recipe on here and tweaked it for a while until it it came out how I liked. My goal was to make a rub that I could generously apply to chicken, salmon, or steak that had great flavor and that was not too salty or spicy. This is our standby now and our favorite way to use is is to pat it on both sides of a salmon filet and then cook the salmon on the grill.

Provided by beckas

Categories     < 15 Mins

Time 5m

Yield 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon garlic salt
1 tablespoon seasoning salt
1 teaspoon cumin
1 tablespoon dried mustard
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon oregano
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon mccormick bbq salt (optional, but it adds a unique flavor)

Steps:

  • Toss all ingredients in a bowl. Store left overs in a sealed container or a ziploc sandwich bag.
  • To use, generously pat the rub on both sides of salmon, chicken, or beef and cook or grill as desired.

THE BEST BARBECUE RUB RECIPES - THE SPRUCE EATS

From thespruceeats.com
  • Carolina BBQ Rub. Chuck Ozburn sent in this fantastic, classic-style Carolina barbecue rub recipe. It's perfect for pork because it's a well-balanced rub that goes light on the salt and spice, with just a touch of sweetness from white and brown sugar.
  • Memphis Rub. In Memphis, the rub is the most important ingredient aside from the meat. Often ribs are served with only a rub and without sauce. This means that the barbecue rub has to provide all the flavor in order to make Memphis-style barbecue.
  • Magic Dust. Who would have thought that just 9 ingredients could make such a delicious seasoning? There's a big shaker of Magic Dust next to the salt and pepper in my own kitchen and at all my restaurants.
  • Basic Pork Rub. This basic rub recipe goes great on any cut of pork, and because it has some salt in it, it's a convenient and simple mix of spices to have at hand.
  • Best Odds Brisket Rub. This basic rub will give you the perfect balance of sweet and salty to make your beef shine. Commonly used in Texas, it is easy to make and contains everything you need for a delicious smoked barbecue brisket.
  • Memphis-Style Rib Rub. Memphis ribs are traditionally served without sauce, though this doesn't mean that the meat is tough and dried out. It's just the common practice not to serve a barbecue sauce with this cut of meat.
  • Kansas City Rib Rub. Kansas City knows its BBQ ribs. Unlike Memphis ribs, which are served without sauce, you can finish Kansas-style ribs off with a good barbecue sauce.
  • Best Odds Pulled Pork Rub. Like its name says, this traditional pulled pork rub will provide you with the best odds of making a great batch of Carolina-style pulled pork.
  • Brisket Brown Sugar Rub. If you have enough time, rub your brisket with this rub and keep overnight in a bag in the fridge before smoking. Adjust the heat by using mild or hot chili powder, or experiment with the amount of sugar to find your preference.
