Categories     Main Course

Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 15

2 lbs raw 99% lean ground turkey breast
2 tablespoons McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning
2 medium carrots (minced (I recommend using a food processor or food chopper))
8 oz white mushrooms (minced (I recommend using a food processor or food chopper))
2 medium yellow onions (minced (I recommend using a food processor or food chopper))
3 garlic cloves (minced)
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
3 cups water
2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
1 (14.5 oz) can petite diced tomatoes
¼ cup tomato paste
1 tablespoon brown sugar
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
12 oz uncooked pasta shells (use whole wheat pasta if following the WW Purple plan)

Steps:

  • Lightly mist a large dutch oven or soup pot with cooking spray and bring over medium heat. Place the ground turkey in the pot and cook, breaking up with a spoon or spatula. Add the Montreal Steak seasoning and stir in. Cook until the turkey is cooked through and in small pieces.
  • Add the carrots, mushrooms, onions, garlic, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce and stir together. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally or until vegetables are softened. Add the water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar and cayenne pepper and stir together. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low. Cover the pot and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  • Add the pasta and stir until well combined. Re-cover the pot and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the pasta is cooked through. Remove from heat, stir and allow to sit for 15 minutes uncovered before serving.

THE BEST SLOPPY JOES

The Best Sloppy Joes image

This is weeknight comfort food at its finest. We created a homemade sauce that is tangy and flavorful but also quick and easy. We used both ketchup and canned tomato sauce for lots of tomato-y zip and just a touch of brown sugar for a bit of sweetness and slight caramel finish. Green bell pepper is a key addition; it really enhances the other ingredients, elevating the flavor profile into the realm of a true sloppy joe.

Time 30m

Yield 4 to 6 sandwiches

Number Of Ingredients 15

2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium onion, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 pound lean ground beef
12 ounces (1 1/3 cup) tomato sauce
3/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon paprika
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
6 hamburger buns, toasted

Steps:

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and peppers and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and starting to caramelize in some spots, 6 to 7 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in the beef and cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon or spatula, until it is browned, no longer pink in the middle and cooked through, 7 to 8 minutes.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, red wine vinegar, paprika, cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon salt and a generous amount of black pepper and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened and heated through, 5 to 6 minutes. Spoon the meat onto the toasted buns.

Categories     Beef

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 lb 95% lean ground beef
1 tablespoon McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning (I used the reduced sodium kind)
8 oz white mushrooms, minced (I used a food processor)
1 medium carrot, minced (I used a food processor)
1 medium onion, minced (I used a food processor)
2 cloves garlic, minced (I used a food processor)
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 pinch of cayenne pepper
15 oz can of tomato sauce
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 (11 oz) can of refrigerated pizza crust dough (such as Pillsbury thin crust)
1 cup shredded 2% Mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees. Lightly mist a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray and set aside. Bring a large saute pan or skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Break the ground beef up with a spoon or spatula while cooking. Sprinkle with steak seasoning and continue to cook until beef is browned. Add the mushrooms, carrot, onion, garlic, vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for 5 minutes. Add the brown sugar, cayenne pepper, tomato sauce, and tomato paste and stir together. Cover and continue to cook for another 5 minutes. Unroll your pizza dough and lay it in your prepared baking dish. Push the dough down across the dish and up the sides. Pour the meat mixture from your skillet into the pizza dough. Place in the oven for 12 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle the Mozzarella cheese over the top. Place the casserole back in the oven and cook for 5 additional minutes or until cheese is melted and pizza crust is browned.
