Categories     100+ Everyday Cooking Recipes

Time 20m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups water
2 ½ cups white flour
½ cup salt
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
2 (0.13 ounce) packages unsweetened, fruit-flavored soft drink mix (such as KOOL-AID®)
3 tablespoons vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Bring the water to a boil in a sauce pan; remove from heat and set aside.
  • Whisk together the flour, salt, cream of tartar, and soft drink mix in a large bowl; stir the vegetable oil into the flour mixture using a spoon, not a whisk. Pour the hot water into the bowl and continue stirring. When the dough is cool enough to handle, turn it onto a lightly-floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Store unused portions in refrigerator.

EDIBLE PLAY DOUGH RECIPE

Edible Play Dough Recipe image

Kids love play dough, my son in contrary loves to eat play dough!!! So I made edible play dough with this easy to make homemade edible play dough recipe.

Provided by Hemapriya

Categories     DIY

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 5

Plain all purpose flour
Cooking oil (I used sunflower oil)
Food colors - The food colors can either be liquid or powder. I used a powder (to which I added water to make a solution.)
Salt
Water

Steps:

  • Take the flour in a large bowl.
  • To the flour add the required amount of salt.
  • Pour water into the flour and 3 tablespoon of vegetable oil in it.
  • Knead the dough evenly, if required more oil can be added.
  • If it is sticky, add more flour.
  • When a soft consistency is attained, make the dough into small sections with craters.
  • In the craters pour the food colors.
  • Use a glove ( I have used a surgical glove, as we have a bunch always at home, kitchen gloves also work fine) to mix individual dough. Please lubricate the gloves with oil, as the dough may stick with the glove.
  • Please use separate glove for each color or wash after mixing each color.
  • Alternative method, the dough can be placed in a zip lock polythene bag, close the zip and knead the dough into the color required.
  • Viola!!! Your Edible Play Dough is ready!!!

EDIBLE KOOL-AID PLAY DOUGH

Edible Kool-Aid Play Dough image

I made this often as a preschool teacher and now make it regularly with my own children. Smells great and you can vary the colours depending on which flavour kool-aid you choose. My little girls current favourite is grape as it makes "purple playdough!" At Christmas we make it red or green and add peppermint extract and glitter! Orange at Halloween and we even found some Halloween coloured glitter.Pick up some seasonal cookie cutters from the dollar store and your all set. Lots of possibilities and FUN!

Yield 1 batch

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
2 (1/4 ounce) packages Kool-Aid (you decide the flavour!)
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 cups boiling water
3 tablespoons oil

Steps:

  • Mix dry ingredients, add wet.
  • Knead until smooth (careful-- it's hot! may take a minute or two before you can really ditch the spoon and get your hands in there!) You may need to add extra flour for desired consistency.

EDIBLE PLAY DOUGH - SAFE FOR KIDS WITH PEANUT ALLERGIES!

Edible Play Dough - Safe for Kids With Peanut Allergies! image

This recipe comes from one of my favorite cookbooks,"Dining on a Dime" by Tawra Kellam. I brought this dough, along with lots of kid safe kitchen utensils, to my daughter's daycare. The kids had an absolute ball with it! This recipe yields a dough similar in texture to real play dough, unlike the peanut butter dough recipes I have tried. Food color paste seems to give a brighter, truer shade than liquid but use whatever you have. Enjoy!
