  • Carefully choose your subject. Different fruits lend themselves to different types of images – so it’s important you choose your subjects carefully. If you’re after a classical-type still-life shot, pick traditional subjects like pears, apples, and lemons.
  • Use natural lighting for a realistic result. As I explore throughout this article, there are many effective ways to light a fruit photo. But the simplest way – and the one that I recommend for beginners – is to use natural window light.
  • Don’t be afraid of artificial lighting. While natural lighting is a great way to get started with fruit photography, artificial lighting does come with several advantages.
  • Use light painting for dramatic results. In the previous sections, I explored the power of conventional lighting sources. But there’s an alternative lighting option that I’d like to discuss
  • Carefully choose your lighting direction. When you’re first getting started with fruit photography, you may be tempted to position the light directly in front of your subject arrangement.

17 FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY IDEAS (FOR CREATIVE RESULTS!)

From digital-photography-school.com
  • Do some dark food photography. Everyone has a soft spot for moody, atmospheric photos. A darker approach can turn an ordinary dish into a mysterious masterpiece.
  • Go minimalistic. Minimalism is all about simplifying the scene, and it’s a technique that shines a spotlight on your subject. With minimalism, less really is more.
  • Try different points of view. Here’s a simple yet effective food photography idea: Change your perspective. You see, most people view their food from a sitting position.
  • Experiment with the white balance. Food is often photographed with an off-camera flash, which opens up a lot of creative possibilities. One trick: Put a gel on your flash (such as a blue gel or an orange gel).
  • Use a food artist. Getting someone to professionally style your food before shooting will give your photos a more creative feel. As a photographer, you’ll be leaning on the creativity of your stylist here; your job will be to compose and light your image in a professional way.
