Easiest Pie Crust Ever! image

For years I used my mom's old pie crust recipe, then she got me a cookbook for Christmas that had this pie crust in it. I was sold. It's easy, delicious and bakes perfectly.

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup ice water

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix flour and salt.
  • Add oil and water all at once to flour.
  • With a fork, stir until mixture holds together.
  • Shape dough into a ball and flatten.
  • Roll between two pieces of wax paper to a 12" diameter.
  • Peel off one piece of wax paper and invert dough, paper side up, into a 9" pie plate.
  • Peel off second piece of paper. Ease an fit pastry into plate. Trim and flute edges.
  • NOTE: DO NOT pierce pie crust. Fill as desired and bake according to pie recipe.
  • Can be doubled for a 2 crust pie.

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Place all ingredients in 9 inch pie pan. Stir together with fork. Pat mixture into bottom and up the sides of the pan. Poke holes in bottom and side of crust.
  • Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until light brown. Use as directed in favorite pie recipe.

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups (240 grams) all-purpose flour, cold
1 teaspoon (6 grams) salt
1 tablespoon (11 grams) sugar
1 cup (225 grams) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces and chilled in the freezer for 10 minutes
1/2 cup (120 milliliters) ice water
1 teaspoon (5 milliliters) lemon juice

Steps:

  • In the bowl of a food processor fitted with the blade attachment, pulse together the flour, salt, sugar and butter until the mixture resembles cornmeal with some pea-size pieces of butter remaining.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the ice water and the lemon juice. Slowly add the liquid to the flour mixture, pulsing, until the dough just comes together. Squeeze a small piece of dough between your thumb and index finger to make sure it holds its shape.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it in half. Gently turn over each piece of dough a few times so that any dry bits are incorporated. Form each piece into a loose disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes.

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
2 sticks chilled unsalted butter, cut into pieces

Steps:

  • To make the dough for the pie crust, mix 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon each salt and sugar in a medium-size bowl. Cut 2 sticks chilled unsalted butter into pieces. With a pastry blender, cut in butter, working until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  • Add 4 tablespoons ice water; work with hands until dough comes together. If dough is still crumbly, add more ice water a tablespoon at a time (up to 4 more tablespoons). Do not overwork.
  • Divide dough in half, and flatten halves into disks. Wrap disks separately in plastic; refrigerate at least 1 hour.
  • To form the pie shell, roll the dough on a floured surface into a 14-inch round. Wrap around rolling pin and carefully unroll over a 9-inch pie plate.
  • Fit gently into bottom and side of plate. Use kitchen shears to trim dough to a 1-inch overhang; fold under, and seal to form a rim.
  • Crimp rim with fingertips and knuckle. Repeat with remaining dough; wrap each with plastic, stack, and freeze.

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the flour and salt; cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle with vinegar. Gradually add the milk, tossing with a fork until a ball is formed. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until easy to handle. , For a single crust, roll out pastry on a lightly floured surface to fit a 9-in. or 10-in. pie plate. Transfer pastry to pie plate. Trim pastry 1/2 in. beyond edge of plate; flute edges. Fill or bake shell according to recipe directions., For a double crust, divide pastry in two portions so that one ball is slightly larger than the other. Roll out larger ball on a lightly floured surface to fit a 9-in. or 10-in. pie plate. Transfer pastry to pie plate. Trim pastry even with edge of plate. Add filling. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pie; place over filling. Trim, seal and flute edges. Cut slits in top. Bake according to recipe directions.

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 large eggs plus 6 large egg yolks
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon kosher salt

Steps:

  • Add flour, eggs, yolks, olive oil, and salt to the bowl of a food processor. Process until dough comes around the blade of the processor, and continue to blend. Add additional flour, a half tablespoon at a time, until dough is smooth and still slightly tacky, about 1 minute. If dough is dry, add water, one teaspoon at a time.
  • Wrap dough in plastic wrap and let rest at least 1 hour at room temperature. If resting longer than 4 hours, transfer to refrigerator, where dough can rest up to 12 hours. Remove from the refrigerator 1 hour before rolling.
  • Unwrap dough and divide into 6 roughly equal portions. On a lightly floured surface, press into a rectangular shape with your palms, and then roll to a dimension of 9" x 12". Dough should be very thin.
  • With the long side perpendicular to you, fold pasta sheet at 3″ intervals to form a flat roll. Use a sharp knife to cut into ½-inch wide noodles. Gently use unfurl the pasta, toss lightly with flour if necessary to keep from sticking, and place on a baking sheet, lightly covered with a clean kitchen towel, until ready to cook. Repeat with remaining dough.
  • To boil noodles, bring a large pot of generously salted water to a boil. Add noodles, gently stir, and cook, 2 minutes. Drain and serve with your favorite sauce.

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, cut into small pieces and frozen 15 minutes
1/2 cup chilled solid vegetable shortening, cut into pieces
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, chilled

Steps:

  • In the bowl of a food processor, pulse the flour, salt, and sugar. Add butter and shortening and pulse until coarse, pea-sized crumbs appear, about 10 seconds. With the machine running, add vinegar and 1/4 cup ice water and process until the dough just holds together, about 30 seconds. Squeeze a small amount of dough between your fingers and if it is very crumbly, add more ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time (2 tablespoons maximum). Do not over process.
  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and push together into a rough ball. Knead a few times to combine, then divide into two equal balls. Flatten each ball into a disc with smooth edges (no cracks), cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate at least 1 hour or up to overnight.
