STEAK IN THE INSTANT POT

Steak in the Instant Pot image

Steak in the Instant Pot is great with potatoes cooked all at the same time! Tender sirloin and vegetables for dinner have never been easier to make.

Provided by The Typical Mom

Categories     Entree     Main Course

Number Of Ingredients 10

1-2 lb steak (ours was sirloin)
1 onion (sliced)
1 c beef broth
1 pkg onion soup mix (or packet of gravy mix)
2 tbsp steak sauce
1 tsp minced garlic
2 small/medium potatoes (russet, cut in half)
salt and pepper (to taste)
2 tbsp cornstarch (+ 3 tbsp cold water)
2 tbsp olive oil (or butter)

Steps:

  • Put pot on saute and add olive oil with steaks. Sear on outsides. Remove and deglaze the pot using 1/4 c of broth. Slice onion and put on bottom of pot.
  • Season steak with salt, pepper and anything else you desire and place on top of onions. Try to overlap the least possible.
  • In a bowl whisk together rest of your broth, onion soup mix/or package of dry gravy mix, steak sauce and minced garlic. Pour this over your steak.
  • Cut potatoes into quarters and place inside pot on sides of steak. Sprinkle salt and pepper on potatoes.
  • Close lid and steam valve and set to high pressure for 5 minutes. (NOTE: timing will vary depending on how thick and large your pieces are and how well done you like them but this has been perfect for us)
  • Allow to naturally release steam when done, this will take about 15 minutes.
  • Remove steak, potatoes and onions and set pot to saute if you want to thicken sauce.
  • In a bowl whisk together cornstarch and water until smooth. Once it is boiling add this in and stir for 1-2 minutes so it thickens. Turn pot off and pour this sauce over potatoes and steak.

CHEAP AND EASY STEAK AND POTATOES FOR TWO

Cheap and Easy Steak and Potatoes for Two image

This is a satisfying meal for two that costs around $4 total or only $2 per person. I usally buy a package of two cube steaks weighing anywhere from 1/2 pound to 3/4 of a pound at Safeway for less than $3 for the package. I always make sure to but the tenderized cube steaks that have the needler holes all through them - otherwise your steak will be very tough! The potatoes are my recipe 444325 scaled down to serve two and using idaho baking potatoes instead of red potatoes. The spiciness of the potatoes goes so well with the slight sweetness of the pan sauce - this is hands down one of my favorite meals!! If you don't like things so spicy cut down on the black and cayenne peppers.

Time 40m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 lb tenderized cube steak, cut into two steaks
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 tablespoons butter, divided
1/3 cup white wine
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/3 cup beef broth
2 idaho baking potatoes
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • For the Steaks:.
  • In a small bowl, combine the paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Liberally season the steak with the rub on both sides and let it rest on the counter for 15 minutes.
  • In a large saute pan, heat the vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of the butter over medium high heat. When hot, place the steaks in the pan and sear until nicely browned, about 3 minutes per side for medium-rare, 5 minutes per side for medium-well. Remove the steaks to a plate and let rest for 10 minutes.
  • In the meantime, deglaze the saute pan with the wine and vinegar and simmer until reduced by half. Add the beef broth to the pan and reduce by half again. Remove from the heat and whisk in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter.
  • For the Potatoes:.
  • While the steaks are rubbed and resting (before cooking!), preheat the oven to 525°F
  • Peel the potatoes and cut them into 1-inch chunks (smaller pieces will burn!). Pat them dry and place them in a bowl. Drizzle the olive oil over them and toss to coat. Add the rest of the spices and toss to coat well.
  • Line a baking sheet with foil and spread the seasoned potatoes out on it, making sure no pieces are touching. Bake for 15 minutes and then turn potato pieces.
  • Place back in the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  • To Serve:.
  • Place 1 steak and half of the potato cubes on each plate. Scrape any accumulated juices from the plate the steaks were resting on back into the pan sauce. Pour half of the pan sauce over each plate and enjoy!
