Categories     Entree

Time 20m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/3 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons seasoned salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup dark beer or water
1 1/2 cups Progresso™ panko crispy bread crumbs
Peanut or corn oil for frying
1 1/2 lb fish fillets (walleye, cod, whitefish or tilapia)

  • In electric skillet or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches oil to 350°F. Coat both sides of fish fillets with flour mixture, then dip in beer mixture, letting excess drip back into bowl. Place 1 or 2 pieces of fish at a time in plastic bag with bread crumbs; seal bag and shake to coat completely.
  • Fry fish in batches in hot oil about 4 minutes, turning once, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot.

CRISPY PAN FRIED FISH

Crispy Pan Fried Fish image

Recipe video above. 3 key tips to ensure your pan fried fish comes out beautifully golden and crispy every time: pat the fish dry, press flour on well but shake excess off well, and heat the pan first before adding the oil or use a heavy duty non stick pan. With a good fish, well seasoned and crispy skin, I don't need a sauce....but I've added a couple in the notes just in case! :)

Provided by Nagi

Categories     Main

Time 8m

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 thin fish fillets, around 150g/5 oz each, 1 cm / 2/5" thick, skin on or off ((Note 1))
Salt and pepper
1/4 cup / 35g flour ((plain/all purpose, wholemeal))
1 tsp paprika (, optional (Note 2))
2 - 3 tbsp oil, enough to mostly thinly cover base ((I use vegetable or canola))
Lemon wedges
Finely chopped parsley or dill (, for garnish, optional)

Steps:

  • Use scrunched up paper towels to pat the fish dry on both sides. This is especially important if you are using thawed frozen fish.
  • Season the fish well on both sides with salt and pepper (key!).
  • Mix the flour and paprika on a plate.
  • Coat fish on both sides with flour, pressing down firmly so it adheres, but shake well to remove excess. (Note 2)
  • Heat a heavy based skillet (normal or non stick) over medium high heat until you see wisps of smoke. Add oil and swirl to coat the pan - it will heat within seconds.
  • Add fish - it should sizzle straight away. Shake the pan lightly to move the fish. Cook for 2 minutes until golden and crisp, pressing down gently, then flip. Cook the other side for 2 minutes until crisp then remove.
  • If it's browning too quickly, just remove pan from the stove briefly. If it's stuck, don't move - it will release naturally once golden.
  • Serve fish immediately with lemon wedges and garnished with dill or parsley, if using. It starts to lose crispiness after 5 minutes.

EASY LIGHTLY FRIED FISH - THYME AND SPICES - MEDITERRANEAN

Easy Lightly Fried Fish - Thyme and Spices - Mediterranean image

This is just a really simple and easy, and quick, and delicious version of friend fish fillets. Serve it with whatever side you would like - I personally like it with a nice fresh vegetable salad, like a Greek/Aegean/Hortaki. It is parve, so you can go ahead and eat it with dairy.

Provided by Mivashel

Categories     Greek

Time 30m

Yield 4 fillets (large), 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

4 tilapia fillets (any boneless fish works, e.g. haddock, sole)
1 egg (binding agent, may need two if they are smaller)
1 lemon
fresh thyme sprig (a few will do, more for garnish or decor)
1/2 cup flour
salt
pepper
chili powder
paprika
cumin
oregano
spices (any that you like!)
vegetable oil (for frying)

Steps:

  • thaw the fish if frozen - rinse it under water and pat dry if you wish.
  • preheat about an inch of oil in a pan.
  • cut the fillets into smaller pieces if you want.
  • crack the egg into a shallow bowl and beat - add a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • prepare the spiced fish fry coating - mix roughly 50:50 flour:spices. I suggest adding a fair amount of salt and pepper, and also chili powder if you like it hot. ANY COMBO OF SPICES WORK, be liberal. MIX UNTIL HOMOGENOUS.
  • dip the fish in egg - let the extra egg drip off (tap against the side of bowl).
  • coat both sides of the egged up fish in the frying coating.
  • carefully (hot oil is dangerous!) fry both sides of the fish in the oil until golden brown on both sides, and the inside of the fish is flaky and white.
  • dry on paper towels lined with a bed of thyme.
  • garnish with lemon wedges and thyme sprigs (optional).

BAJA FRIED FISH TACOS RECIPE: DELICIOUS STREET TACOS

Baja Fried Fish Tacos Recipe: Delicious Street Tacos image

Provided by Claudia Gomez

Time 50m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 18

1 lb fresh cod filets
8 corn flour tortillas
Cooking oil
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 large egg
1 c. Mexican beer
1/4 c. mayonnaise
1/4 c. Mexican crema
2 fresh limes, juiced
2 tbsp cilantro, chopped
1 tbsp raw honey
2 c. green cabbage, finely shredded
2 fresh limes, cut into wedges
Fresh cilantro
Pico de gallo
Salsa verde

Steps:

  • Heat a few inches of your cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat or in a deep fryer.
  • Season all sides of your fresh cod fillets with salt, then slice into 8 even pieces.
  • Shred your cabbage with a sharp chef's knife or a mandolin slicer.
  • Place all of your batter ingredients in a shallow mixing bowl - all-purpose flour, sea salt, cayenne, egg, and Mexican beer. Whisk together the mixture until you create a smooth batter. Set aside.
  • In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the Baja fish taco sauce recipe - mayonnaise, crema, lime, cilantro, and honey.
  • Once well mixed, toss in the sliced cabbage mix until well-coated. Set aside.
  • Grab some heat-safe tongs or use your fingers to dip each piece of cod into the batter bowl. Hold the cod above the bowl for a few seconds to allow the excess batter to drip off before carefully placing it into the preheated oil.
  • Fry the cod in the oil until both sides brown; you'll likely need to gently flip the fish over halfway as it often floats at the top.
  • Remove the fish with a stainless steel mesh scoop, then transfer to a large dinner plate lined with a few paper towels. Lightly salt.
  • Continue the deep-frying process until you've cooked all your cod.
  • Use a tortilla warmer to heat your tortillas, then top them with a piece of cooked fish.
  • Top with your cabbage slaw in Baja sauce
  • Add your final fish taco toppings - a squeeze of fresh lime, cilantro, salsa verde, or pico de gallo.
  • Immediately serve and enjoy your fried fish tacos with slaw!

½ cup chicken stock
½ cup heavy cream
juice from ½ lemon
½ teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon mustard

1 tablespoon olive oil

Steps:

  • Add the butter, chicken stock, heavy cream, lemon juice, lemon zest, mustard, salt, and pepper to a saucepan, and allow everything to simmer at a low heat for a few minutes. • Heat a frying pan to a medium-high heat, then add the olive oil once it becomes hot.
  • Place the basa fillets into the hot pan, and fry for roughly 3 minutes on one side.
  • After 3 minutes and when the fish are coloring slightly underneath, flip both the fish fillets over, and add the butter to the pan. Tilt the pan, and use the melted butter and juices to baste the fish. Fry for another 2 to 3 minutes until the fish is no longer translucent.
  • Take the fish out of the pan, and allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving with the lemon cream sauce.

  • Steamed or Roasted Veggies. If you’re not a big fan of fried foods, then steamed veggies are perfect for you. This works well with almost any vegetable, although what vegetables work the best will depend on your taste preference.
  • Rice or Quinoa. Rice and quinoa are great dishes because they go well with almost anything, so it doesn’t matter which side dish you choose; rice or quinoa will compliment it.
  • Baked Potatoes. Baked potatoes are a classic choice when it comes to side dishes. They are easy to make and can be prepared two ways – microwaved or baked in an oven if you choose the microwave route, cut potatoes in half and put them face down on a paper towel.
  • Green Salad. If you’re not into fried foods or other dishes that are too greasy, a salad is the perfect side dish for you. It provides your body with much-needed nutrients, and it goes well with almost any fish because it has no sauce.
  • Hush Puppies. Hushpuppies are a delicious side dish that goes especially well with fish. They’re fun to make, and they can be served in different ways – alone, with ketchup or tartar sauce, cheese on top, etc.
  • Stuffed Bell Peppers. Stuffed bell peppers are a creative dish that goes well with fried fish. They are made with ground beef, rice, onions, tomatoes or tomato sauce, and spices.

  • Steamed Broccoli. A quartet of goodness – quick, easy, healthy, and delicious! And, be honest, did you know Broccoli was high in protein. It’s also a great source of Vitamin C.
  • Corn and Tomato Salad. Corn, tomatoes and herbs come together to create this summer fresh salad. It’s flavorful, colorful and everything you could ever hope for in a side dish!
  • Fruit Salsa. Mangos, strawberries, kiwi, and pineapple are the perfect mix of tart and sweet. In this salsa you can opt for fruits of your choice but be sure to add in the pineapple to give it a tropical taste.
  • Roasted Cauliflower. Are you looking for the best roasted cauliflower? Then look no further than this recipe! You’ll create a dish that is perfectly caramelized, sweet, tender and oh so flavorful!
  • Easy Green Peas with Mint. Would it be wrong of us to say this was an easy-PEAsy recipe? You can use fresh or frozen peas. Add some mint, onions and olive or sunflower oil – that’s all you need!
  • Coleslaw. A traditional fried fish side favorite. Some say it’s an American classic! The name coleslaw actually comes from the Dutch word “koolsla” which means “cabbage salad.”
  • Hush Puppies. Crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, hush puppies are an easy side dish that you can mess up! The cajun seasoning here helps give them a little bit of a kick.

  • French Fries. Fish and chips have been a perfect pairing for as long as time exists. This is a filling and nostalgic combination of sweet childhood memories.
  • Onion Rings. This is also a classic side to go with any fry-ups. These onion rings cook fast, so you don’t need any preparation before cooking. Remember to cook them in small batches to make sure each ring doesn’t stick together.
  • Potato Wedges. If thin fries are not to your liking, consider this recipe instead. You can cut potatoes into thick wedges and deep-fry them in oil just like normal fries.
  • Hush Puppies. This is one of those rare fry dishes that does not include any potatoes. Cornmeal, flour, and milk are mixed and shaped into small balls, then deep-fried at high temperatures.
  • Salt And Vinegar Chips. This is one of the common sides that originated from the UK. What makes this dish a good side for fried fish is unsurprisingly vinegar.
  • Lemon Roasted Potatoes. This is yet another way to cook this versatile tuber. Roasted potatoes are easy to make, and they make a hearty addition to your fried fish.
  • Parmesan Brussels Sprout Bites. Parmesan brussels sprouts are another side that is not that hard to make. All of the ingredients are in the name: parmesan and brussels sprouts.
  • Roasted Cauliflower. Cauliflower is another versatile vegetable. Its flavor is so neutral that you can season it with almost anything. I recommend this side dish if you want something that takes only a little bit of time to prepare but still tastes wonderful.
  • Baked Beans. This is a rather simple recipe because baked beans are a common canned product that can be found in nearly every supermarket. The supporting ingredients are varied, but here, I like to use bacon for a classic twist.
  • Bang Bang Cauliflower. This dish is like roasted cauliflower but with more flare. You don’t need any complicated tools, just chop the cauliflower into bite-size pieces and toss them into the batter.
