(1) 16 oz. package dry white beans
1 lb cubed ham
8 cups chicken broth
1 cup sliced carrots
1 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Combine everything into the slow cooker.
  • Stir and cover.
  • Heat on low for 6-8 hours or until beans are cooked and soft.
  • Serves 6-8
  • Note: I do not wash and rinse my beans, but you certainly can do this.

1 can regular cola
2/3 cup light brown sugar
1 Tablespoon mustard

Steps:

  • Place pre-cooked boneless ham in crock pot. Slice 1/4 inch deep across top of ham in lattice pattern.
  • In a bowl, mix mustard and brown sugar to create paste. Spread on top of ham, pushing into the sliced ham. Pour can of cola around ham.
  • Turn crock pot on high for one hour. Lower temperature to low for 3 to 4 hours or until internal temperature of ham reaches 140° F.
  • Remove ham from crock pot and let rest for 30 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

This recipe has become, hands-down, my favorite ham! This has replaced our Christmas Ham and makes the entire house smell amazing! There is nothing like coming home with this ham cooking! Experiment with the amounts of seasonings to your liking. I prefer more nutmeg but some prefer less nutmeg and more maple syrup!

1 (6 pound) bone-in country ham
30 whole cloves
3 cups apple cider, or as needed
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 tablespoons ground cloves
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 orange's peel

Steps:

  • Press whole cloves into the ham so they are evenly distributed. You may score the ham for easier insertion if you wish. Place the ham in a slow cooker. Pour in apple cider until only about 2 inches of ham is above the surface. Pack the brown sugar on top of the ham, pressing into the cloves. This will get washed away in the next step but any that stays on is a bonus.
  • Pour the maple syrup over the ham. Season the apple cider with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, ground cloves and vanilla. Add the orange peel to the pot. Fill the slow cooker as full as you can with apple cider without going over the fill line. Cover and set to Low. Cook for 8 to 10 hours.

1 cured bone -in ham, fully cooked, 4-6 lbs. (the specifics are up to you)
1 can Sprite (7-up, Sierra Mist, etc.)
1 cup brown sugar
1 can pineapple chunks, with juice (or use slices)

Steps:

  • Spray crock pot with cooking spray.
  • Place ham flat side down into the crock pot.
  • Dump pineapple, can of Sprite and brown sugar over the top.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  • (You may baste the ham about halfway through cooking time, do this quickly to prevent a lot of heat from escaping out of the crock pot).
  • Check for doneness. Ham shouldn't need to cook more than 8 hours on low because it will dry out.
  • When I took it out of the crock pot, I kept the juices in a separate bowl that people could spoon over their own meat. You can thicken the juice with cornstarch if it is too runny.

4 cups vegetable broth (or chicken broth)
1 cup ham, diced or shredded (or ham hock or turkey bacon)
1 cup yellow onion, diced (about ½ medium onion)
1 cup carrots, diced (about 4 medium carrots)
1 cup celery, diced (about 4 medium celery stalks)
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt (to taste - depending on saltiness of broth)
¼ teaspoon pepper, freshly ground
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon dried thyme
½ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon dried parsley, plus ½ teaspoon fresh to garnish (optional)
Crumbled bacon
Croutons
Sliced green onions
Blue cheese crumbles
Chopped walnuts or toasted pecans

Steps:

  • SOAK split peas for 8 hours or overnight with at least 8 cups of water in the bowl.
  • DRAIN and rinse the split peas after they are finished soaking.
  • DICE onion, carrots, celery, and ham. MINCE garlic and fresh parsley (optional).
  • POUR all ingredients into a slow cooker, except for the fresh parsley. STIR to combine.
  • COOK on low for 3 to 4 hours, or until split peas are cooked. Stir ingredients again.
  • OPTIONAL: Remove 1 to 2 cups of soup and blend. Stir the blended soup back into the rest of the soup and stir to combine.
  • TASTE AND SEASON with additional salt and pepper, if needed.
  • GARNISH with fresh parsley and crumbled bacon, or other desired toppings.
  • SERVE hot with a dinner roll or cornbread on the side.
