DUBLIN DROP CAKE
A Dublin Drop is a drink that has a shot of Irish cream liqueur and Irish whiskey dropped in the shot glass, down into a glass of Guinness® beer. There are several recipes that replicate this flavor out there, but this is different in that there is no icing and lends itself to being taken to the pub easier.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Grease a 10-inch fluted tube pan (such as a Bundt®) and coat inside of pan with unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Beat cream cheese, confectioners' sugar, 1 egg, and Irish cream liqueur in a bowl until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
- Beat chocolate cake mix, chocolate pudding mix, 3 eggs, and vegetable oil in a separate bowl until batter is thick and smooth. Slowly beat Irish stout beer into the batter.
- Spoon 1/3 of the cake batter into the prepared pan; layer the Irish cream filling on top. Spoon remaining cake batter over the filling.
- Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean, 40 to 50 minutes.
- Loosen the edges of the cake from the pan with a thin spatula; let cake rest in pan 15 minutes. Invert pan over a wire rack to release cake and allow to cool completely on the rack.
- While cake is cooling, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat and stir in white sugar and Irish whiskey. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar, reduce heat to low, and simmer until thickened, about 10 minutes.
- Transfer cake to a serving platter. Generously brush whiskey glaze over cooled cake several times and allow glaze to soak into cake.

5 OF THE BEST COCKTAIL BARS IN DUBLIN
From beanmagazine.net
Estimated Reading Time 7 mins
- The Stella Cocktail Club. Run by the same people behind the Vintage Cocktail Club, this bar is one of my locals and, perhaps, my favourite bar in the city.
- Bonsai Bar. Bonsai Bar, located above the Rustic Stone is Dylan McGrath’s Japanese-inspired bar that has slick interiors with playful details like the anime-covered bathrooms and fake cherry blossom festooned ceiling as you walk up the stairs.
- Bow Lane. Bow Lane is a little social hub on Aungier Street that often has people spilling out of its doors, and for good reason. Their establishment is one of those that pride themselves on showmanship and, if you pay attention, you’ll see the mixologists doing their thang theatrically behind the bar.
- The Liquor Rooms. Located underneath the Clarence Hotel, this eclectic gem is great when you get it at the right time. If you head there late at the weekends, it gets incredibly loud (I know, I’m an old granny at heart) and dancey, which is not ideal for a quiet cocktail.
- Gold Bar at Hang Dai. I got to hang out here when Glossier last came to Dublin and I honestly can’t wait for an excuse to go back. Located above Hang Dai, 2017’s hottest culinary opening, it consists of a small bar and terrace that protrudes over Camden Street.

- The Lucky Duck. Bars and pubs. Cocktail bars. price 3 of 4. The Lucky Duck is a multi-level joint in a beautifully restored Victorian red-brick building. There’s a neighbourhood pub feel to the ground level, where you can settle in for a pint at the copper-topped antique bar.
- The Bar With No Name. Bars and pubs. Café bars. price 2 of 4. There’s no sign outside, but this bar is hardly a secret. Look for the wooden snail at the doorway and head upstairs to find a bar that’s light and airy, with antique touches alongside sleek red leather couches.
- Grogan’s. Bars and pubs. Gastropubs. price 2 of 4. There are no airs to Grogan’s. One of the most beloved pubs in the city, this is the spot where friends meet for a catch-up drink and end up settling in for the evening.
- 9 Below. Bars and pubs. Cocktail bars. price 4 of 4. Sometimes, only a touch of luxury will do. And things don’t get any more luxurious than 9 Below, on St Stephen’s Green.
- Peruke and Periwig. Bars and pubs. Cocktail bars. price 3 of 4. There’s a fairly hefty cocktail menu at this small but lavish spot. So the easiest thing to do is grab a seat at the bar, get chatting to one of the bartenders and leave your order in their capable hands.
- Token. If you fancy a slice of animated action with your pint, then Token can deliver. Kitted out with retro arcade games, this is a bar where you can play a bit of Donkey Kong or Pac-Man as you sup a craft beer.
- 57 The Headline. This neighbourhood joint is the kind of cosy, welcoming spot that feels like an extension of your own living room. They have a huge array of craft beers on tap (get a tasting tray if you can’t decide on just one), a superb wine list and even their very own gin.
- Drop Dead Twice. Bars and pubs. Cocktail bars. price 2 of 4. Who says you can’t get an excellent cocktail in an old-school pub? At Drop Dead Twice, the two worlds are combined to create a bar that’s effortlessly cool without any drop of pretension.
- Vintage Cocktail Club. Bars and pubs. Cocktail bars. price 2 of 4. The whole speakeasy trend has faded away in recent years, but the Vintage Cocktail Club has survived the gimmick and proven itself a truly excellent spot for a cocktail.
- The Long Hall. Bars and pubs. Cocktail bars. price 2 of 4. If you’re looking for a classic Dublin pub, try The Long Hall. With a red and white striped façade and an interior that dates back to 1881, this is the place to go for an excellent pint of Guinness, a spot of people-watching and a hefty dose of eavesdropping.

- Fade Street. Fade Street is an old reliable, it never lets us down. There's always a deadly atmosphere, top quality food and tempting cocktails. You just can't beat it.
- The Market Bar. Tapas and cocktails are a big yes from me. Cocktails can be pretty heavy so sometimes all you need is a few small plates while you sip.
- The Little Pig. The Little Pig takes up the floor above Pacino's restaurant and is all luxurious red velvet walls, polished bronze roofing, navy velvet seating, white tabletops, dimmed lighting and tasselled lamps.
- Shelbourne Social. Up there as my favourite Dylan McGrath project, the Shelbourne Social is a force to be reckoned with. This trendy venue is all about hearty meals and inspiring cocktails.
- NoLita. Another reliable spot. NoLita has deadly decor, delicious Italian food and reliable cocktails. It's right in the centre of town so it's handy to get to if you're organising a night out for a group of mates.
