Making perfect crispy bacon at home is really simple. Follow these steps and you'll have perfect bacon every time (and even better it's really easy and takes almost no effort!).

Streaky bacon (as much or as little as you need)

Steps:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 220°C/200°C fan.
  • Lay out the bacon on a baking tray. Make sure that the rashers aren't overlapping.
  • Put into the oven and cook for 15 minutes until crispy.
  • Remove from the oven and serve.

2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1-1/2 lb. Brussels sprouts, trimmed, cut lengthwise in half
4 slices OSCAR MAYER Bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
1/2 cup pecan halves
1/3 cup ATHENOS Crumbled Blue Cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 425°F.
  • Cover rimmed baking sheet with foil; spray with cooking spray. Spread cranberries onto 1/3 of the prepared baking sheet; sprinkle with sugar.
  • Place Brussels sprouts, cut sides down, on remaining part of baking sheet; top with bacon.
  • Bake 30 min., adding nuts to baking sheet after 20 min.
  • Stir ingredients on baking sheet until combined; sprinkle with blue cheese.

6-8 rashers streaky bacon

Steps:

  • Put the bacon in a non-stick frying pan in a single layer. Top with another heavy pan or frying pan that fits snugly into the pan on top of the bacon. If it's not very heavy, top with another pan, or anything heatproof and weighty.
  • Fry on a medium-low heat for 10-15 mins until golden and super-crispy. Check the bacon halfway through cooking - increase the heat slightly if there's lots of liquid in the pan, and flip the bacon over. Keep cooking until the bacon is uniformly golden and crisp.
  • Drain on kitchen paper before adding to sandwiches or crumbling over salads or soups.

This is one of the nicest salads I've ever made. In fact my husband who is very adverse to green foods loves it. It's very, very tasty! Wensleydale is a pale, mild and crumbly soft cheese - the version made with cranberries is best for this recipe. I got this recipe from a sheet of recipes handed out at a cookery demonstration.

4 slices streaky bacon, cut into strips
4 slices white bread, cubed
1 tablespoon olive oil
mixed salad green
2 ounces chopped walnuts (optional) or 2 ounces pecan nuts (optional)
2 ounces sunblush tomatoes in oil
4 ounces Wensleydale cheese with cranberries, crumbed
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 teaspoon coarse grain mustard
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Place all the dressing ingredients in a small container and cover with a lid. Shake well and leave aside.
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the bacon until crisp, remove and fry bread cubes until golden and crisp. Drain on kitchen paper and keep warm.
  • Divide salad leaves between 4 serving plates and sprinkle over the crumbed cheese, walnuts and sunblush tomatoes.
  • Sprinkle the cooked bacon and croutons on top then drizzle over the dressing.
