CREAM SOUP SHEPHERD'S PIE
A twist on classic Shepherd's pie using ground beef and cream of mushroom soup.

- Preheat the oven broiler. Brown the ground beef and onion in a cast iron or other oven-proof skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease. Stir the soup (or gravy) into the skillet. Mix well. Add any desired vegetables. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Remove the pan from the heat and spread the mashed potatoes over the top. Dot the top of the potatoes with the butter. Place the pan under the broiler and broil until browned. Serve hot.

Steps:
- In a soup pot, brown ground beef for 8-10 minutes, until no pink remains; drain off grease.
- Add the remaining ingredients except the potato flakes and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes.
- Stir in the potato flakes and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until thickened.
- Serve.

This creamy shepherds pie is delicious. My hubby loves it and calls it gourmet shepherds pie. Wonderful on a cold day!

Steps:
- Brown hamburger with onion.
- Add cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, salt, pepper, mustard powder, and milk.
- Let simmer for about 2 minutes.
- Then in a 2 qt casserole dish layer half of the potatoes, then half of the green beans, and then half of the hamburger sauce.
- Repeat.
- Sprinkle on the cheese and bake at 375 for 45 minutes.

- Prep Work: Shred the cheese from a block, measure out the sour cream and half and half. Let them all sit out at room temperature.
- Cook the Beef: Cook and crumble the ground beef over medium-high heat until cooked through. Drain grease. Remove the ground beef from the pot and set aside.
- Boil & Mashed Potatoes: While the meat cooks, peel the potatoes and cut them into thirds. Add to a stock pot and cover the potatoes with 1 inch of water. Add the salt and boil gently for 10-15 minutes or until very fork tender. Drain, then gently mash with 1 Tablespoon of butter and sour cream. Set aside.
- Prepare the broth: Melt 2 Tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
