Growing up in a small Michigan town with a large Polish population, these sloppy joes seemed to be at every wedding, graduation, and funeral. Slightly sweet with a little tang, just like potato chips, you can't eat just one!

Steps:
- Heat oil in a large pan, skillet, or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Saute onion in the hot oil until softened, about 5 minutes. Add beef; cook and stir until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off any excess fat.
- Stir ketchup, mustard, vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper into the pan; mix until thoroughly combined. Let simmer over low heat, 15 to 20 minutes. Adjust salt and pepper to your liking.
- Serve on hamburger buns.

- Start by browning the ground beef in a large pot over medium-high heat. Drain off the fat.
- Add in the green peppers and onions. Stir, and then add 1 cup water, the ketchup and garlic. Stir it around to combine, and then add the brown sugar, chili powder, dry mustard, red pepper flakes, and hot sauce, Worcestershire, salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine, and then cover and simmer over medium-low heat, about 20 minutes.
- To serve, spread the rolls with the butter and brown them on a griddle or in a skillet. Spoon a good amount of the meat mixture onto the bottom roll, and then top with the other half. Serve with chips, salad or just enjoy it by itself.

- Preheat the oven to 425 F.
- Place frozen Texas toast slices on a baking sheet. Bake for 3 minutes on each side. Remove from oven.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Break up with wooden spoon. Cook until no longer pink, about 10 minutes. Add salt, pepper, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, and water. Stir to combine. Continue to cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes.
- In a large skillet, add in 1 tablespoon of butter and allow to melt. Add 2 slices of Texas toast. Top with 2 slices of cheese on each toast slice, then add a scoop of sloppy joe meat to each one as well. Top each of the bottom halves with another piece of Texas toast, thus forming 2 complete sandwiches.
- Cover and allow to cook for 3 minutes on each side. Repeat this step until you've cooked all 4 sandwiches, and then serve immediately.

- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Split buns and lay them cut side up on a large baking tray (15x21). Lightly brush the cut sides with softened butter or mayonnaise (optional for crispier/more flavorful buns). Bake for 5 minutes to toast the buns. Meanwhile you can continue with the recipe:
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef, onions and bell peppers and cook until beef is browned and onions are softened, about 7 minutes. Add garlic, and sauté 30 seconds.
- In a liquid measuring cup (or small bowl), whisk the beef broth, cornstarch and beef bouillon together until smooth. Add to the meat mixture followed by the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon and all seasonings.
- Gently simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has been absorbed, but the mixture is still a little saucy, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the sharp cheddar cheese until melted. Taste and season with salt, pepper, red pepper flakes to taste (I like more salt). Keep in mind the flavors will be diluted with the cheese and buns.
- Divide mixture between the bottom toasted buns and top each with a slice of provolone cheese. Bake (leaving both top and bottoms cut side up) at 400 degrees F for 5-10 minutes or until cheese is completely melted. Top the sandwiches and serve immediately.
