So easy and good. Nice comfort food for weekdays. I must admit though, I did not use canned chicken the first time I made this. I used fresh, skinless, boneless chicken breasts that I sauteed in olive oil -- thus ruining the whole "can" thang. I'm sure canned chicken would be just fine, but I had fresh chicken on hand rather than canned. A bit of soy sauce or maybe a can of peas or mixed "Chinese" veggies could liven it up a bit. Experiment!

2 (5 ounce) cans white chicken meat, drained
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
1 (4 ounce) can mushrooms, drained
1 (8 1/2 ounce) can chow mein noodles
1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
1 (6 ounce) can French fried onion rings

Steps:

  • Mix together chicken, soups, mushrooms, chow mein noodles and milk.
  • Spoon into baking dish (9 x 13-- pretty sure).
  • Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • Sprinkle with onion rings and bake 10-15 more minutes longer until brown and bubbly.

vegetable oil
stewing beef, hamburger or pork sausage
canned corn, drained
canned new potato, sliced,drained
canned green beans, drained
canned Italian-style stewed tomatoes, undrained or 1 (12 ounce) can V8 vegetable juice
aluminum foil

Steps:

  • Pour a small amount of oil in the bottom of the clean coffee can (from a 2 pound coffee can).
  • Place meat in the bottom of the can and allow to partially brown.
  • If using hamburger or sausage, form a good-sized patty which covers the bottom of the can.
  • Layer with corn, potatoes, green beans and tomatoes or tomato juice.
  • Cover the can with aluminum foil and set it in among hot coals.
  • Cook for approximately one hour.

This came from a kids cookbook so it's really easy. If you don't want to, you don't even have to wash the casserole pan when this is gone. You can make this an indoor recipe by cooking it at 350F in a casserole dish in the oven for an hour or so.

1 lb ground beef
4 small potatoes
4 small carrots
2 small onions
salt
pepper

Steps:

  • Peel the potatoes and carrots with a vegetable peeler, and grate them or cut them into really thin slices.
  • Remove the skins from the onions and cut them into really thin slices.
  • Make four layers in a clean 3 lb coffee can, starting with the ground beef, add the onions, then the potatoes, then the carrots, sprinkling each layer very lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and set in or on the campfire.
  • Cook 30-60 minutes depending on how hot your fire is.

2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate squares and butter in microwave and stir.
  • Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla and stir.
  • Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt (do not overmix).
  • Pour into a 9x13-inch baking pan that has been sprayed with nonstick baking spray.
  • Bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • Cool on a rack.
  • When cool, spread cherry pie filling on top of brownies.
  • Melt chocolate chips and drizzle over the top.

1/2 cup rock salt
1 pint half-and-half
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons of your favorite flavor instant pudding mix
1/3 cup fruit (such as, bananas, strawberries, peaches)
3 of your favorite cookies, crushed into pea-size pieces
1/4 cup finely chopped nuts

Steps:

  • Additional supplies needed: A 1 lb coffee can and a 3 lb coffee can.
  • Mix the first three basic ingredients together (not including rock salt) and pour into the one pound coffee can. Add flavorings if desired. Place the lid on securely and set inside the three pound can.
  • Add ice, and alternate layers of ice and salt outside the small can and inside the large can. When totally full, secure the lid on the large can. You may wish to add duct tape for good measure.
  • Now here comes the fun part! Place a sheet on the floor or wrap the can in a large towel. Let party guests roll the can back and forth for at least 10 minutes. Open the cans and check the ice cream.
  • If it is not starting to freeze, replace lids and roll 10 minutes more. The ice cream should be frozen to the sides and bottom of the can. If not thick enough, place in freezer and check every 10 minutes or so.
  • Note: This recipe can be effected by temperature, humidity, and other environmental factors, so make a trial run before attempting in a group setting.

1 (1/4 ounce) package dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup warm water
1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cooking oil
4 1/2 cups flour

Steps:

  • Mix in a small bowl the first 3 ingredients.
  • Cover with a towel and let stand for 15 minutes.
  • Mix next 4 ingredients. Add yeast mixture and flour. Mix all well.
  • Divide dough into 2 greased 1 pound coffee cans. Put plastic lid on cans and allow to rise till lid pops off.
  • Remove lids and place cans upright in 350 oven for 35 minutes or till desired brownness is reached.
