A simple and delicious chocolate icing. Great on top of my family's all-time favorite Truffle Cookies, the recipe for which can also be found on this site.

1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 (1 ounce) square unsweetened chocolate, melted

Steps:

  • Mix sugar, milk and unsweetened chocolate until smooth.
  • Use this icing for dipping the Truffle Cookies.

Creamy frosting that tastes great on cookies or bars...especially Chocolate Cookies.

Number Of Ingredients 5

¼ cup butter
2 cups confectioners' sugar
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Mix together all ingredients. May need to add more milk (slowly) until frosting reaches a spreadable consistency. Spread on Chocolate Cookies or other cookies or bars of your choice. Enjoy!

My Favorite Cookie Icing/Frosting image

I have used several different icing recipes on my cookies over the years and this is by far my favorite. I find that cookie glaze, while simple and easy, doesn't have enough flavor and is almost impossible to do any real decorating with. My 4-yr-old DS loves to help me decorate cookies and this frosting even stands up when piped on, just like you would decorate a cake.

Number Of Ingredients 6

6 tablespoons butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
food coloring (optional)

Steps:

  • Cream together butter and sugar. Slowly mix in milk, then vanilla and almond.
  • Whisk until fluffy.
  • Can be spread or piped onto cookies.
  • Icing will begin to harden in less than 30 minutes. Wait a few hours before stacking iced cookies.

I tried to make brown royal icing to decorate bear shaped cookies. But even with good quality food color paste, I couldn't get it dark enough. This was the answer.

1 lb powdered sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
7 tablespoons warm water
3 tablespoons powdered egg whites (meringue powder)

Steps:

  • Mix powdered sugar, cocoa and egg whites.
  • Add water slowly until the icing is the consistency of thick frosting for outlining and thin with more water to fill.

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 Cups powdered sugar
3 Tablespoons of cocoa powder, don't level
1/3 cup butter, room temperature
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1/4 cup milk
1 Tablespoon sugar

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl combine 1 cup powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Using an electric mixer add butter and mix well. Add additional 2 cups of powdered sugar slowly until combined as well as vanilla. Mixture will be thick, set aside. In a small pot, heat milk and 1 Tablespoon sugar on stove until warm but not hot and sugar is dissolved. While mixer is on, slowly add milk to powdered sugar mixture and blend until smooth and creamy and desired consistency. Use immediately or store in an airtight container. If storing, you'll need to whisk it up again before spreading over cookies.

2 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
3 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup packed brown sugar
½ cup butter
1 egg
¾ cup sour cream
½ cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease cookie sheets.
  • Sift flour, soda, and salt together.
  • In the top half of a double boiler, melt the chocolate over low heat.
  • Cream together brown sugar, butter, and egg in a large mixing bowl. Slowly mix in the flour mixture and mix until well blended. Pour in melted chocolate, sour cream, and vanilla. Mix well and stir in nuts.
  • Drop dough by teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks. Cookies will be soft and about the size of a half dollar.
  • When cooled top with Chocolate Frosting.
