This elegant dessert is not your typical dump cake: Rich chocolate cake is covered with glossy cherry filling and sprinkled with toasted almonds - reminiscent of a Black Forest cake. It's a simple and flavorful crowd-pleaser.

1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter
Two 21-ounce cans cherry pie filling
One 15.25-ounce box chocolate cake mix
1/4 cup toasted sliced almonds
Whipped cream, for serving

Steps:

Put the butter in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish and place it in the oven while it preheats. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
When the butter is melted, remove the baking dish from the oven and add the cake mix. Stir to combine. Pour the cherry pie filling on top and spread it out evenly. Bake until the cake is set, about 1 hour. Let cool 20 minutes. Top with toasted almonds. Serve with whipped cream.

Amazingly easy and amazingly good... too good! This is my mother-in-law's recipe that was just recently shared. It would be a shame not to share it. Best served warm and with vanilla ice cream (of course).

2 (21 ounce) cans cherry pie filling
1 (15.25 ounce) package white cake mix
¼ cup butter, melted
½ cup coarsely chopped pecans

Steps:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Spread cherry pie filling over the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking pan. Stir cake mix and butter together into a gooey, clumpy mixture. Break into pieces between your fingers and crumble evenly on top of the cherry filling. Sprinkle pecans on top.
Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown on top, 35 to 40 minutes.

1 (12 ounce) package vanilla wafers, crushed
1 cup whipping cream
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
½ cup confectioners' sugar
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling

Steps:

Crumble cookies into a 9x9 inch pan and set aside. In a medium bowl, whip cream and set aside.
In a separate mixing bowl, whip together cream cheese and confectioners' sugar until smooth and fluffy. Fold whipped cream into cream cheese mixture and spoon over crumbled cookies. Spread pie filling over top and refrigerate overnight.

cooking spray (such as Pam®)
1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls (such as Pillsbury® Grands! Big and Flaky)
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
1 (12 ounce) can cherry pie filling
1 (18.5 ounce) package yellow cake mix (such as Duncan Hines®)
¾ cup unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch pieces

Steps:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Spray a 9x13-inch glass baking dish with cooking spray.
Unroll crescent rolls into the prepared dish, pinching the seams together.
Beat cream cheese, white sugar, and vanilla extract together in a bowl; spread over crescent roll dough. Sprinkle brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon over cream cheese mixture layer.
Pour cherry pie filling over brown sugar layer. Sprinkle yellow cake mix over cherry pie filling. Arrange butter slices over cake mix and top with remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Wrap a piece of aluminum foil under baking dish to help prevent rolls from burning.
