My grandsons tried these savory morsels for the first time as youngsters and loved them. They're all grown up now, and instead of little appetizer squares, we make the servings breakfast-size. -Helen McFadden, Sierra Vista, Arizona.

1 tube (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent rolls
1 package (8 ounces) frozen fully cooked breakfast sausage links, thawed and cut into 1/2-inch slices
2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
4 large eggs
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons chopped green pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Unroll dough; place in an ungreased 13x9-in. baking dish. Press onto bottom and 1/2 in. up sides to form a crust. Top with sausage and cheese. Beat eggs in a bowl; add remaining ingredients. Carefully pour over cheese. , Bake, uncovered, at 425° for 20-25 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cut into 12 pieces.

These are a family tradition at holiday parties, but they are also a great addition to your feast during the big game. These can be made ahead of time and frozen. Serve them fresh or when your ready for them, just heat them up in the oven.

1 lb ground beef
1 lb zesty hot sausage roll (Bob Evans)
1 lb Velveeta cheese, cut into cubes
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (or to taste)
2 tablespoons oregano (or to taste)
1 loaf rye cocktail bread (Pepperage Farms light party rye)

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In medium skillet, brown ground beef and sausage together. Drain off any grease
  • Melt velveta cheese in mixing bowl in microwave.
  • Add browned ground beef, sausage, worcestershire sauce and oregano to melted cheese and mix well.
  • On a cookie sheet or baking stone, arrange pieces of bread.
  • Scoop mixture (about 1 tablespoon) onto each piece of bread.
  • Bake for 10 minutes. If frozen, bake for 20 minutes.

1 lb hamburger meat
8 ounces hot pork sausage
1 lb Velveeta cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon oregano
1 loaf rye cocktail bread

Steps:

  • Cook hamburger meat and sausage in pan until no longer pink, drain grease.
  • Cut in Velvetta Cheese, then add remaining ingredients.
  • Spread 1-2 T. of mixture on each cocktail rye, place on greased baking sheet and cook at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.

1 pound bulk pork sausage
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 can (4 ounces) chopped green chiles
1 tablespoon minced jalapeno pepper, optional
10 large eggs
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. In a large skillet, cook sausage until no longer pink; drain. Place in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Layer with cheeses, onion, chiles and jalapeno if desired. In a bowl, beat eggs and seasonings. Pour over cheese. , Bake, uncovered, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean, 18-22 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes; cut into 1-in. squares.

⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese
⅓ cup mayonnaise
⅓ onion, grated, juice reserved
1 (1 pound) loaf cocktail rye bread

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Place the Parmesan cheese, mayonnaise, onion and reserved onion juice in a blender or food processor. Blend thoroughly. Spread the mixture evenly on slices of cocktail rye bread.

  • Cook sausage in a 10-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high, breaking it up into small pieces with a wooden spoon, until browned, 5 to 6 minutes. Transfer sausage to a cutting board using a slotted spoon; discard fat. Let cool slightly, about 5 minutes, or until cool enough to handle. Chop sausage into small pieces.
  • Return sausage to skillet over medium-low; stir in mascarpone, Worcestershire, and oregano until smooth, about 3 minutes. Add Taleggio; gently cook, stirring often, until cheese is just melted and gooey, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove pan from heat; stir in 2 tablespoons parsley and salt. Let cool to room temperature, about 20 minutes. (The topping can be transferred to an airtight container and stored in refrigerator up to 3 days.)
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Arrange bread slices on a large rimmed baking sheet with some space between them. Top each slice with about 1 1/2 teaspoons cheesy sausage mixture and 1 teaspoon fontina.
