My husband and I share a love for all kinds of soup and came up with this delicious recipe together. It really does taste like beef Stoganoff. With a crusty roll, it's a satisfying meal in itself.

1/2 pound beef top sirloin steak or beef tenderloin, cut into thin strips
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 tablespoon butter
2 cups water
1-1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup tomato paste
2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
1 can (8 ounces) mushroom stems and pieces, drained
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups cooked wide egg noodles
1/2 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • In a 3-qt. saucepan, cook beef and onion in butter over medium heat, until meat is browned. Stir in the water, milk, tomato paste and bouillon. Add mushrooms, salt and pepper; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20-30 minutes or until meat is tender. , Combine evaporated milk and flour until smooth. Gradually add to soup. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes until thickened. Add noodles; cook until heated through. Remove from the heat; stir in sour cream.

1 medium onion, chopped

½ cup sour cream or yogurt
4 cups hot cooked medium egg noodles

Steps:

  • Slice beef into very thin strips.
  • Heat half the oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Cook beef until browned, stirring often. Set beef aside.
  • Add remaining oil. Add onion and cook over medium heat until tender. Pour off fat.
  • Add soup and paprika. Heat to a boil. Stir in sour cream and return beef to skillet. Heat through. Serve over noodles. Sprinkle with parsley.

  • Cook egg noodles according to directions.

Here is a savory take on an old fashioned recipe. I love beef Stroganoff, but my mom used to make this recipe using hamburger instead. It's not expensive to make, tastes great and can be a family favorite. It's hearty and heart warming, a real delight.

1 lb ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped
2 Tbsp flour
2 can(s) cream of chicken soup
1/2 c sour cream

Steps:

  • 1. Brown hamburger in large skillet and drain fat. Add chopped up onion. Cook till onion is translucent. You can make additions if you like, depending on your tastes. I like to add mushrooms. If you do, add them at the same time you cook onions. Sometimes I add green onions as well. It all depends on you.
  • 2. Add flour. Coat all of hamburger. Then add cream of mushroom soup, one can at a time. Sometimes mixture can be too thick, so I might add 1/2 cup milk, again, it's up to you.
  • 3. Cook mixture until it is bubbling. Allow it to cook for 10 minutes. Keep on low to medium temperature. Cover if you like. When the food has bubbled, add sour cream. Turn off heat immediately. Do not allow heat to continue once you've added the sour cream. Serve with rice or noodles. Rice is best.

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook egg noodles in the boiling water, stirring occasionally until cooked through but firm to the bite, about 5 minutes; drain.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Saute onion in hot butter until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add ground beef to skillet in small chunks; cook and stir to break the beef into smaller pieces as it cooks until no longer pink, 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture, stir, and cook for 1 minute. Stir mushrooms and garlic salt into the beef mixture.
