BROWN SUGAR CRACKLE COOKIES

Brown Sugar Crackle Cookies image

We can't get enough of these delicious homemade brown sugar cookies. What's Betty's secret to making them so soft and chewy? This recipe uses brown sugar instead of white sugar, which adds a bit more natural moisture to these cookies, giving them their light and fluffy texture. This brown sugar cookie recipe is simple to mix up and makes enough for about 56 cookies. Take it easy, if you don't want to make all 56 cookies in one day, freeze half the dough and come back to it another time!

Time 1h45m

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

CHOCOLATE BROWNIE CRACKLE COOKIES

Chocolate Brownie Crackle Cookies image

Chocolate Brownie Crackle Cookies are like a soft, chewy brownie in bite-sized cookie form. Roll the cookies in powdered sugar so that they reveal a sweet, festive cracked surface as they bake. Roll these cookies into very smaller balls (about 1.5-inch in diameter) than you do other cookies. Their tiny size makes them extra fun!

Provided by Jess Smith via Inquiring Chef

Categories     Dessert

Time 24m

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 1/4 cups (280 g) All-Purpose Flour
1/3 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
1 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Kosher Salt
8 Tbsp Unsalted Butter, softened to room temperature ((1/2 cup or 1 stick))
3/4 cup (150 g) White Sugar
3/4 cup (150 g) packed Light Brown Sugar
1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
2 large Eggs
1 cup Powdered Sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F / 177°C.
  • Line sheet pans with parchment paper or a Silpat baking mat or spray them with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • Using a standing mixer or hand mixer, beat butter until smooth. Add both sugars and continue to mix until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  • Add vanilla extract and eggs and mix on low until eggs are fully incorporated, stopping to scrape down the bowl as needed.
  • Add dry ingredients to mixer and mix on low just until everything is combined.
  • Pour powdered sugar into a shallow baking dish or bowl.
  • Roll cookie dough into 1.5-inch balls (keep these small so the finished cookies are bite-sized) and then roll the balls in powdered sugar to fully coat. (You can do this in batches, dropping a bunch of the balls in powdered sugar and then rolling them all at once.)
  • Place cookie dough on prepared sheet pans, leaving a couple of inches of space between them.
  • Bake until cookies are just barely set in the middle, 9-10 minutes.
  • Allow cookies to cool on sheet pan for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to finish cooling.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

BROWN SUGAR CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

Brown Sugar Chocolate Chip Cookies image

Probably the easiest chocolate chip cookie recipe EVER. Soft, chewy, and everything you could ask for in a Chocolate Chip cookie. The absolute favorite in my house.

Provided by CyndiBears

Categories     Chocolate Chip Cookies

Time 25m

Yield 24 Cookies, 24 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup butter (room temperature)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Cream together the butter and the brown sugar.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla.
  • Add the dry ingredients until just combines.
  • Using a spoon, mix in the chocolate chips.
  • This is an optional step -- I usually make the cookie dough a day ahead of time, and leave it in the fridge overnight. I think it helps make the cookies more chewy, which is how I like them! Then when I take them out the next day to bake, sometimes I'll form the balls of dough, and roll them in chopped pecans before putting them in the oven. But these are both totally optional! The cookies are amazing either way!
  • Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 for 7-9 minutes. BUT WATCH THEM! A lot of ovens will cook them too fast on the outside, and not enough on the inside. At my boyfriend's house I will bake them at 400 for about 4-5 minutes, then lower the temp to 350 for 4-5 more minutes.
  • Let sit on the cookie sheet for about 5 minutes before moving them to a cooling rack. Enjoy!

BROWN SUGAR CRACKLE COOKIES

Brown Sugar Crackle Cookies image

Provided by Mel

Categories     Cookies

Time 33m

Number Of Ingredients 10

14 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 cups packed dark brown sugar
2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour plus 2 tablespoons (15 g)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon table salt
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Heat 10 tablespoons butter in a 10-inch stainless steel (not nonstick) skillet or small uncoated saucepan over medium heat until melted, about 2 minutes. Continue to cook, swirling pan constantly until butter is dark golden brown and has nutty aroma, 1 to 3 minutes. Browned butter can burn easily and quickly so keep a close eye on it!
  • Remove the skillet or pot from the heat and transfer the browned butter to a large heatproof bowl. Stir the remaining 4 tablespoons butter into the hot butter to melt; set aside for 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, adjust an oven rack to the middle position and heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 large (18 by 12-inch) baking sheets with parchment paper, silpat liners or lightly coat them with cooking spray.
  • In a shallow baking dish or pie plate, mix the granulated sugar and 1/4 cup packed brown sugar, rubbing between your fingers, until well combined; set aside. Whisk flour, baking soda, and baking powder together in a medium bowl; set aside.
  • Add remaining 1 3/4 cups brown sugar and salt to the bowl with the cooled butter and mix until no sugar lumps remain, about 30 seconds. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula; add the egg, yolk, and vanilla and mix until fully incorporated, about 30 seconds. Scrape down the bowl.
  • Add the flour mixture and mix until just combined, about 1 minute. Give the dough a final stir with a rubber spatula to ensure that no flour pockets remain and the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  • Divide the dough into 24 portions, each about 2 tablespoons, forming balls about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Working in batches, toss the balls in the reserved sugar mixture to coat and set them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart, 12 dough balls per sheet. (Smaller baking sheets can be used, but it will take 3 batches.)
  • Bake one sheet at a time until cookies are browned and still puffy and edges have begun to set but the centers are still soft (cookies will look raw between cracks and seem underdone - don't overbake), 11-13 minutes. Cool the cookies for 1-2 minutes on the baking sheets and then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
