These are down home Southern sticky buns. This is from the Brer Rabbit Cookbook, a Southern favorite!

Ingredients

1/2 cup pecans, chopped (or walnuts)
1/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup butter, melted (or margarine)
1/4 cup molasses
1 (3 ounce) package cook & serve vanilla pudding mix
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 lb frozen white bread dough, thawed

Steps:

Lightly grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan. In a medium bowl, combine pecans(or walnuts), brown sugar, butter(or margarine), molasses, pudding, milk and cinnamon.
Slice the bread dough into 1" thick rounds. Arrange bread in a prepared baking pan. Pour the molasses mixture over bread. Cover and let rise 2 to 3 hours or overnight in your refrigerator.
Bake in a 350° oven, 30 minutes or until the bread is a nice golden color and molasses mixture is bubbling. Let stand 5 minutes. Invert onto a serving platter. Enjoy!Makes 8 Servings.

2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup molasses
1/3 cup butter
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 cup milk, sour
1 egg
1 cup whipped cream

Steps:

heat to boiling point but dont boil molasses and butter.
add baking soda.
add sour milk.
sifted dry ingredients.
bake in hot waffle iron.
serve in 1/4's with whipped cream in between.

Delicious, soft, melt-in-your-mouth cookies. This is actually a vintage WWII Brer Rabbit "Molasses Sugar Cookie" recipe from when sugar was rationed. As odd as it seems, DO use butter-flavored SHORTENING and NOT butter, the taste is buttery anyway and shortening will give you that perfect texture. Chilling the dough is also a must. Original recipe says "yields 4 dozen", but we only end up with 2 dozen. Prep time doesn't include chilling time. Family Note: Memo is Mom-Mom's mother: Verdis Pierce Reasoner.

Ingredients

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup unsulphured molasses
1 large egg (not jumbo)
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon clove
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

Melt shortening, cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg; beat well.
Sift dry ingredients, add to first mixture and mix well.
Chill thoroughly (for at least a few hours, we chill overnight).
Form into 1" balls, roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheet 2-3 inches apart.
Bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes. Cookies should be light, pillowy and soft, not dark and crispy.
