Steps:
- Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored.
- Add sugar and water.
- Add the nuts, bread crumbs, baking powder, and shortening.
- Mix well.
- Add vanilla and fold in Stiffly beaten egg whites.
- Bake in 2 greased layer cake pans in hot oven (400°F) 15- 20 minutes.
- When cool, spread whipped cream, sweetened and flavored, between layers and on top of cake.

Steps:
- 1. Scald 1/2 of the milk with butter. Add crumbs, stir. Add rest of the milk and stir well. Add beaten eggs and stir well.
- 2. Mix flour, salt, and baking powder and add this mixture to the batter. Stir well
- 3. Do NOT grease your griddle. Cook as regular hotcakes

- There is a real advantage to making bread crumbs instead of using pre-packaged ones, with their unpleasant preserved taste. Full tasting bread, like a sourdough or herbed bread makes for delicious crumbs. When made from fresh bread the crumbs absorb less fat or liquid than a dry crumb, making them ideal for topping off gratins, or breading meat and fish when frying. Dry crumbs are better suited for stuffings since they absorb moisture just like a sponge. Most breads can be turned into bread crumbs by simply grinding them in a food processor. Trimming crusts makes for a more delicate crumb and for very fine crumbs, strain them through a fine-mesh sieve. Store bread crumbs in a tightly sealed plastic bag in the freezer.

This recipe was dated 1920. My grandmother recieved it from her older sister Mary Kennedy Mudrak. I only remember having this one time when my Aunt Charlotte Sullivan Smith came to visit. It tasted good...

- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a cake pan.
- 2. Beat the eggs, extracts, milk, spices and sugar. Stir in the bread crumbs.
- 3. Put batter evenly into cake pan. Bake for 40 minutes.
- 4. This is cake is similar in texure and flavor to a very moist brownie.
- 5. ***** You can make this in different flavors like chocolate, molasses, banana, carrot, rum, etc. **** You can add other ingredients of choice like chips, nuts, shredded carrots, fried bacon, etc. **** You can frost, but some versions are great without toppings or frostings. **** You can serve with whip cream or ice cream.
