BLUEBERRY GIN COCKTAIL

Blueberry Gin Cocktail image

Learn how to make this gorgeous, layered Blueberry Gin Cocktail or as I like to call it, Blueberry Gin Gin Fizz. Made with a layer of homemade blueberry syrup on the bottom, spicy ginger beer in the middle and topped with this beautiful gin. Easy steps to create this lovely ombré layered look by a simple "float" process.

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 oz blueberry simple syrup
3-4 mint leaves
1/8 lemon (wedge)
2-3 oz Ginger Beer (or mixer of choice)
1 1/2 - 2 oz Gin (I used Empress 1908 Gin to give it this beautiful hue)
Optional Garnish | Lemon Sugared Rim (Skewered blueberries, twist of lemon and/or mint sprig)
1 cup all natural cane sugar | I use organic cane sugar
1 cup filtered water
1 cup fresh blueberries (washed (or frozen))
Small handful of fresh mint (optional)

Steps:

  • Place 3-4 mint leaves in the bottom of an old-fashioned glass
  • Pour 2 oz Blueberry syrup over the mint and muddle gently with muddler, or use end of a wooden spoon.
  • Squeeze in 1/8 of a lemon, or to taste. Fill the glass with cubed or crushed ice (I like crushed in my cocktails, so whirred some ice in my blender).
  • Lay a tablespoon upside down on top of the ice and slowly pour a few ounces of the ginger beer (or mixer) to float it on top of the blueberry syrup mixture.
  • Finally, slowly pour the gin over the back of the same spoon, floating it on top of the other two layers.
  • Garnish with blueberries, lemon twist and mint sprig if desired. Stir before sipping.

BLUEBERRY GIN AND COCKTAIL

Blueberry Gin and Cocktail image

Found this on a political site, she was going to celebrate the health care vote with it and had to have the recipe! It takes about a week to dissolve the berries but can be used after two or 3 days. Prep time includes this

Time P7DT30m

Yield 1 bottle gin, 1 drink, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (8 ounce) box blueberries, fresh
750 ml gin, whichever one you prefer
1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
1 cup water
3 teaspoons sugar
1/2 lemon

Steps:

  • Throw the blueberries and gin in a mason jar, and let this sit for about a week (it actually only takes two to three days for the blueberries to dissolve, so it just depends on how blue you want it).
  • Boil the vanilla bean and sugar in a cup of water for about 1/2 hour or so, and stick in the fridge to cool (or not, it can be hot if it your pouring it on ice).
  • Squeeze 1/2 a lemon in a glass of ice, pour in vanilla syrup to taste, pour in gin. Shake (I like to shake mine in a martini shaker), garnish with a couple blueberries, and drink!

BLUEBERRY GIN

Blueberry Gin image

I don't usually experiment with drinks around Christmas. It is usually just wine and champagne served, but I thought I would play around and have some fun this year. I actually got the idea from a friend, when we lived in Spain. They had a party one night and they must have had 20-30 different flavoured bottles of vodka, everything from fruity ones to chili, even jalapeno. All of them they had made themselves by adding the flavoured ingredient, I thought it was so novel and it was interesting tasting all the different flavours, well maybe I didn't try them all, I would have been on the floor if I had. Any way this is a recipe for blueberry flavoured gin, I have not made this before so I can not vouch for how good it will turn out. I am just trying it for something different this year.

Yield 1 bottle

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 (250 -300 g) package blueberries
6 tablespoons sugar
700 ml gin

Steps:

  • In a large bottle pour gin, add blueberries and sugar, shake well and refrigerate for 2 weeks or up to 2 months.
  • Shake the bottle from time to time, you will see a marvellous rich colour developing as the days go by.
  • To serve: Place a shot of gin in a blender with crushed ice, blend, pour into chilled glasses and top with tonic and garnish with a sprig of mint. Alternatively, serve alone in a small chilled glass with ice cube.
  • I will post a photo once my gin is done as I said I only put it in the fridge a few days ago so I will have to be patient until it is done.
