Steps:
- Preheat your oven to 375 °F
- Mix the sauce ingredients together in a medium sized sauce pan until fully combined. Bring to a low rolling boil, and cook until it thickens. Remove from the heat and set aside.
- Combine the meatball ingredients : breadcrumbs, garlic, salt, pepper, egg, onions and ground beef together in a stand mixer bowl. Use the paddle attachment and mix on low until combined. This makes for the BEST distribution of egg and crumbs through the meat!
- Roll the meat mixture into meatballs, whichever size you want. I prefer slightly larger ones, they don't dry out as quickly.
- Pop them into the 375 degrees oven and start them cooking.
- After about 20 minutes, take the meatballs out for a second, and drain the fat out of them.
- Now you can cover those meatballs up with sauce. Pour the sauce over the meatball, covering them completely.
- Finish cooking them until done, and they look oh-so saucy and delicious. This can take up to another 20-30 minutes depending on the size of your meatballs.
- When cooking meatballs I like to insert a thermometer in them and make sure they have reached a temp of at least 165 degrees. With all the beef recalls lately, it's far better safe than sorry!
- I love sweet and sour meatballs on rice, especially bad-for-you, white rice! Serve with the side of your choice.

SWEET AND SOUR MEATBALLS IN SAUCE
A family recipe (from my mother-in-law) for a unique twist on traditional meatballs. These are baked in a wonderful tomato-based sweet and sour sauce, which is delicious over rice! I doubled the original sauce recipe. We love extra sauce, and this recipe will make a lot.

Steps:
- Combine ground meat, beaten egg and onion in a large ball and mix well. For children who have egg allergies, use pre-mixed 1/2 tsp starch and 1/2 tsp water to replace the egg. Form into bite-size balls.
- In a small bowl, mix sugar, soy sauce, sake, ketchup, vinegar and water to make sauce.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in meatballs and cook about 5 minutes until outside is brown. Remove excess oil using paper towel, then add the sauce. Cook about 5 minutes more until the liquid is almost gone. Make sure meat is well-done.
- Add pre-mixed starch and water to make the leftover sauce thicker.
- Meatballs can be kept frozen without changing the texture or flavor. Cook many at once, freeze and defrost a small portion each morning!

- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F and line a baking sheet with tin foil -- optional but helps with clean up! (OPTIONAL: instead of baking, you can also brown on all sides and then simmer in the sauce. I make a big batch at once, which is why I bake them).
