- Bake onion rings according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine beef, garlic salt and pepper; mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into six 3/4-in.-thick patties., In a large nonstick skillet, cook burgers over medium heat 5-7 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160°, adding cheese during the last minute of cooking. Serve on buns with barbecue sauce, bacon, onion rings and toppings as desired.

From Parade magazine. I have not made these but they look great. The quantity of bacon will depend on the size of the onions, I think. Original recipe did not give measurements for most ingredients.

Steps:
- Slice onions into 1/2 inch thick slices and separate into rings. Dust with dry spice rub of your choice.
- Wrap each ring with a slice of bacon, smaller rings may need only 1/2 slice. Secure the bacon with a toothpick.
- Sear the wrapped onion rings directly over hot coals for about 1 minute per side, then move to the cooler side of the grill and cook, covered, for about an hour or until the bacon is crispy.
- Mix the Dipping Sauce ingredients and set aside.
- When the bacon is crispy, brush with barbecue sauce and continue to cook for about 15 minutes, to set the sauce.

- Preheat oven to 400˚F (200˚C).
- Peel and cut onions into ½-inch (1 cm) rings. Separate the rings.
- Wrap a piece of bacon around one onion ring. Repeat with remaining onion rings and place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
- Combine the BBQ sauce and honey in a bowl, and brush onto rings.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Enjoy!

- Cut off the top of each onion and peel away the skin. Using a sharp knife, cut the onions into 1/4-inch slices (or thicker if you prefer). Separate the individual onion rings from each slice, discarding the centers. Set aside.
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, seasoned salt, and baking powder. Add in water and eggs and mix until the batter is smooth.
- Heat 2-inches of oil in a large pot to 375 degrees F over medium-high heat. You can use a long stem thermometer to monitor the oil's temperature.
- Dip onion slices in the batter, and shake gently to remove any excess. Then carefully drop the onions into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot.
- Cook for 2 to 4 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Use tongs or a spider strainer to remove cooked onion rings to a paper towel-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining onions and batter.
- Serve onion rings immediately. I like them with fry sauce, ranch, or ketchup for dipping.

- Thinly slice onion. (The slices should be thin enough that you should be able to see the knife through the end of the onion where you're slicing). Place onion slices in a shallow dish and pour buttermilk over the onions. Move them around so they are all in the buttermilk, but they don't have to be completely covered. - Preheat grill. Shape ground beef into 4 equal sized patties. Grill burgers 4-5 minutes on each side until desired doneness is reached.
