BASIC BATTER WAFFLES
This hearty waffle recipe comes from an issue of Parent's Magazine. Ive made it every week for years and it comes out great every time. I double it and freeze the leftover waffles and reheat in toaster oven.

Steps:
- Mix all dry ingredients together using a large whisk.
- Mix the wet ingredients together.
- Gently combine but don't overmix.
- Cook as your waffle maker directs.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar (my daughter).
- Cover with toasted nuts, bananas, and real maple syrup (Me!).
- Pour on log Cabin (my son) and Michele's Maple Cream Syrup for my husband!

- Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Gradually beat in the egg, then add the milk slowly, whisking well to get as smooth a batter as possible.
- If you're making sweet waffles, grate in the orange zest and add a few drops of vanilla extract.
- Get your waffle machine ready. Once it's hot, ladle in the batter mixture and seal, following the machine instructions until your waffles are cooked.

- In a small bowl, whisk milk and eggs; pour over flour mixture, and whisk gently to combine (don't overmix). Gently whisk in butter.

- Preheat waffle iron and read manufacturer's instructions. Melt butter in microwave. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. In another bowl, beat together milk and eggs. - Heat the waffle maker according to manufacturer's instructions. Whisk the egg whites to stiff peaks. In a separate large bowl, mix together the flour, bicarbonate, caster sugar and a pinch of salt.
- Make a well in the centre and add the egg yolks and melted butter. Start mixing with a balloon whisk; keep whisking as you slowly add the milk until you get a smooth, thick batter. Carefully fold in the egg whites with a metal spoon.
