1 -1 1/2 cup fruit juice (can be any fruit juice)
1/2-1 cup ice
1 medium banana
artificial sweetener (optional)

Steps:

  • Fill whatever size cup you want with ice.
  • Fill the cup the rest of the way with the Fruit Juice. I find, since we had a large harvest of Pomegranates this year, this recipe works well with natural Pomegranate juice. But you can use any fruit juice.
  • Pour the ice-juice mixture into your blender container.
  • Peel and break the banana into the same blender container.
  • If using sweetener, and it to the blender container before processing.
  • Process until as smooth as you like.

You can use this basic recipe to create your own unique smoothies. This is my husband's recipe - he makes them every weekend morning for the kids & us.

1/2 cup yogurt (any flavor)
1/2 cup milk or 1/2 cup juice
1 banana
1/2 cup chopped fruit (fresh or frozen)
1 teaspoon wheat germ (optional)
1/2 cup ice cube (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix all together in a blender and serve immediately.
  • The optional wheat germ will not affect the taste or texture but it will give your smoothie an extra health boost.
  • Add the ice cubes if you'd like a thicker or colder drink; more like a slushy, especially with frozen banana/fruit/yogurt.
  • Use up to 1 cup of yogurt for a thicker drink.
  • Other options: 1/2 t vanilla; 1 T honey; 1-2 T powdered sugar, white sugar or Splenda.

This breakfast smoothie is easy to make, and is my version of the recipe given to me from my naturopath. You can substitute other milks for the soy milk, such as almond or rice milk, as well as other protein powders for the soy powder. The flax meal is optional, but adds omega-3.

3/4 cup frozen blueberries (or any other frozen berries)
1 cup light soymilk
2 tablespoons protein powder (soy or rice)
1 small banana
1 tablespoon flax seed meal

Steps:

  • Add frozen berries, soy milk to a blender.
  • Peel banana and break up into pieces and add to blender.
  • Add soy protein powder and flax meal to blender.
  • Blend at high speed until smooth. Pour into glass and enjoy.
