The Windows 8.1 ASUS ATK set up did not resolve my non-working backlit keyboard issues either. As far as the mouse keypad issue, first you need to disable the Elan driver (driver for Toshiba computers only) before upgrading to the ASUS Smart Gesture driver. Otherwise, the Elan driver kicks out the other driver. Works for me.
