Homemade Pureed Sweet Potato Baby Food image

A quick and easy method for providing baby food for your little one without any added preservatives, sugar, or salt. Can store cooked puree for 3 days in refrigerator or 3 months in freezer.

2 sweet potatoes, peeled and halved, or more as desired
water to cover

Steps:

  • Fill a small saucepan with water; add sweet potatoes. Bring water to a boil and cook sweet potatoes until tender enough to break apart with a fork, 25 to 30 minutes.
  • Transfer sweet potatoes to a food processor or an immersion blender cup, reserving the cooking water. Blend sweet potatoes until smooth. Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup cooking water and blend until desired consistency is reached.

2 sweet potatoes (about 500g)
baby's milk

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Put the potatoes on a baking tray and roast in the oven for around 45 mins or until a knife inserts easily into the flesh.
  • Allow to cool a little, carefully peel off the skin, removing any hard bits and blitz in a food processor, with a splash of baby's milk, until smooth. You may need to scrape the sides of the bowl a few times to get a smooth consistency throughout.
  • Serve one portion and divide the rest between small containers or ice cube trays and freeze.

Steps:

  • Baking Sweet Potatoes for Baby Food: 1. Wash and poke holes in sweet potato with fork then wrap sweet potatoes in tin foil - do not peel for baking/microwaving. 2. Place in a 400 degree oven and bake for 30-60 minutes or until soft 3. Remove skins by slitting the sweet potato lengthwise when cooled then scoop out the "meat". Use a liquid from your preferred source to puree or thin the sweet potatoes. Boiling/Steaming Sweet Potatoes for Baby Food: 1. Peel sweet potatoes and cut into small chunks 2. Place chunks into a pan with just enough water to slightly cover potato 3. "Steam" boil until tender, be sure to check on the water level. 4. Reserve any left over water to use for thinning out the sweet potatoes if desired.

  • Peel: Cut into the skin of the potato lengthwise and peel away the skin of the potato. Scoop out the sweet potato meat and place it into a blender or food processor, adding in the mild curry powder and liquid.
  • Blend: Puree on high for 1-2 minutes or until smooth, adding in additional liquid in 1/4 cup increments if needed. I had to add in 1 cup of water to the puree pictured.
