WARM ORANGE SPICE DRINK FOR COLD & FLU
I created this drink when I felt a bad cold coming on, and wanted a tasty way to keep it at bay. Oranges provide vitamin C, honey soothes sore throats, cinnamon helps relive nausea, clove quells coughs, and ginger root aids in clearing the sinuses. Also a delicious, warming beverage for those chilly winter days.

FIRE CIDER ( REMEDY FOR COLD & FLU )
A favorite remedy for cold and flu. Effective, easy to make and tasty, though not for the weak of heart. Make a batch before the cold season starts. This recipe is out of Rosemary Gladstar's book "Herbs for the Home Medicine Chest" - A must have book for any herb lover!

COLD AND FLU REMEDY....CONGESTION BE GONE!
This is a tea I have concocted after trying several combinations to help ease chest congestion and asthma symptoms. This delicious tea makes breathing easier especially if you have a cold or mild asthma. Most of these ingredients have a medicinal role in helping chest congestion and or helping to relieve asthma.

IRISH WHISKEY & HONEY REMEDY
Cold and Flu season are here. As a child, I used to get sick quite a bit and always seemed to get a nasty cough. My grandmother used to prepare this drink for me, it really helped and tasted so good (since I was a child, she didn't add a full shot of whiskey, but she did add some). The drink worked and by the next day, my cough was better. As an adult, I still prepare this drink when I get a cold. It may not cure you completely, but it will make you feel better and soothe your soul too :)

WHAT DOCTORS THINK ABOUT 5 COMMON COLD AND FLU HOME REMEDIES
From abc.net.au
- Chicken soup can cure your cold. Of all the homemade options, chicken soup is probably the best known and most loved. Experts say it's not quite a miracle cure, but it has its benefits.
- Oranges keep a cold at bay. Contrary to popular belief, munching your way through your bodyweight in oranges won't prevent a cold, nor stop an existing cold in its tracks.
- The more lemon and honey drinks, the better. Hot drinks involving lemon and honey are a go-to for many of us when a winter illness hits, but the evidence on their curative properties is mixed.
- You should feed a cold and starve a fever. There's some disagreement among experts on this one, but it's likely a myth. One Dutch study did find eating increased a type of immune response that fights off the viruses responsible for colds.
- A hot toddy is a magic cure. For some of us, there's no greater comfort than sipping on whisky when we're feeling blah, especially if it comes in the form of a warm drink.

- Hydration. Austin's number one recommendation for recovering quickly from a cold or flu virus is staying hydrated. "When you're hydrated, your body has a natural ability to flush germs out of your system," she says.
- Vitamin C. While vitamin C hasn't been proven to prevent cold symptoms, some studies have indicated it can shorten the lifespan of a cold. Plus, it boosts your overall health, including your immune system.
- Sleep. "It's so important to get plenty of rest during cold and flu season," says Austin. Sleep helps your immune system function at its best to ward off nasty viruses and bacteria.
- Honey and tea. "I'm a honey fanatic," she says. "It has natural antiviral and antimicrobial properties." Add the natural sweetener (opt for a local variety when possible) to a cup of ginger or cinnamon tea to relieve a scratchy throat and stay hydrated.
- Chicken soup. Sometimes mom really does know best! Hot liquids, such as soup, help reduce mucus buildup and keep you hydrated. A study from the University of Nebraska Medical Center found chicken soup has anti-inflammatory properties, which help reduce a cold's unpleasant side effects.
