- In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; add to apple mixture and toss to coat. In a large bowl, drizzle butter over bread cubes; toss to coat., Place 2 cups bread cubes in a greased 3- or 4-qt. slow cooker. Layer with half of the apple mixture and 2 cups bread cubes. Repeat layers. Cook, covered, on low 2-3 hours or until apples are tender. Stir before serving. If desired, top with whipped cream.

- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Generously butter a 9-by-13-inch rectangular baking dish.
- Place half the diced bread in the baking dish, and then sprinkle on half the diced apples, half the brown sugar and half the butter. Repeat with another layer of bread, apples, brown sugar and butter. End by sprinkling 1/2 cup water all over the surface, a spoonful at a time.
- Bake, covered in foil, until the apples are tender, about 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes to brown.
CROCK POT FRIED APPLE SLICES
Steps:
- Peel the apples; core and slice them into thin wedges.
- Place apple slices in the slow cooker. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), cornstarch, and sugar and stir to blend. Dot with the pieces of butter.
- Cover and cook on low for about 6 hours, or until apples are tender but not mushy. Stir about halfway through cooking.

- Peel, core and slice apples. In food processor, grate apples (in batches, if needed). Place in slow cooker. Stir in brown sugar, salt and cinnamon stick.
- Cover; cook on High heat setting 4 hours.
- Remove and reserve cinnamon stick. In food processor, puree apple mixture (in batches, if needed) until smooth. Return to slow cooker with cinnamon stick.
- Cook uncovered on High heat setting 4 hours longer, stirring occasionally.
- Remove and discard cinnamon stick. Cool completely. Transfer butter to jars; seal tightly. Store in refrigerator up to 3 weeks.

This is a very good but easy dessert to make in the crockpot. I have even added a cup of golden raisins for extra taste and texture. Great served warm with whipped cream or ice cream.

- 2. In a saucepan, melt the butter and stir in the brown sugar and spices.

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 1 1/2-quart baking dish. Toss the apples, blackberries, granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, the lemon zest and juice, flour and 4 tablespoons melted butter in a large bowl.
- In another bowl, combine the cones, brown sugar, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, the almonds, salt and the remaining 4 tablespoons melted butter.
- Pour half of the apple-berry mixture into the prepared baking dish. Scatter half of the cone mixture on top. Transfer the dish to a rack and let sit 10 minutes before serving. Top with ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
