ANISE & WINE COOKIES

Steps:
- In a large bowl, whisk 1 cup sugar, oil, wine, aniseed and salt until blended. Gradually stir in enough flour to form a soft dough. Cover; let rest 1 hour., Preheat oven to 350°. Shape level tablespoons of dough into 6-in. ropes. Shape each into a ring, pinching ends together to seal. Dip tops of cookies into remaining sugar. Place 1 in. apart on greased baking sheets., Bake until golden brown, 20-25 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.

ANISE SPICED MULLED WINE

Steps:
- Combine the wine, cider, brandy, agave, anise and cinnamon in a saucepan.
- Zest the oranges into long strips, then juice them, along with the lemon.
- Bring the wine mixture to a simmer, then let simmer for 8 minutes. Turn the heat off and stir in the juices.
- Divide the orange strips among 8 to 10 warm mugs, then ladle the wine into them.
WINE COOKIES / CIAMBELLE AL VINO
Steps:
- Pre-heat oven to 350° (180° celsius)
- In a medium mixing bowl add wine, oil, sugar, salt and baking powder (add anise seeds if using) mix well, gradually add flour, a little at a time, until it all comes together.
- Transfer to a slightly floured flat surface and knead lightly approximately 10 times. Dough will be soft, so don't work it too much.
- Cut off a little dough at a time, roll into a small chubby rope (about 5 inches (13 centimeters long) and bring ends together to form a circle. Dip in sugar and and place on parchment covered cookie sheets, bake for approximately 25-30 minutes, or golden in colour. Enjoy!

ANISE COOKIES IV
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening, sugar and eggs until smooth. Stir in the anise extract. Combine the flour and baking powder; stir into the wet ingredients. Scoop out spoonfuls and roll into balls. Place balls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until light brown. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Frost when cool if desired.

EASY ANISE COOKIES
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease 2 baking sheets.
- Beat eggs and brown sugar together in a large bowl until smooth. Stir anise seed and salt into the egg mixture.
- Dissolve baking soda in hot water; stir into the egg mixture. Add flour and mix into a dough. Form into 36 small balls.
- Spread white sugar into a wide, shallow dish. Roll the cookie dough balls in the sugar to coat. Arrange onto prepared baking sheets about 1 inch apart.
- Bake in preheated oven until edges are crispy, about 10 minutes.

This Italian Wine Cookie recipe was handed down through many generations. Thay are a crisp, not-too-sweet, EASY TO MAKE cookie that are great with coffee or tea.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder and sugar. Add the wine and oil. Mix with a large fork and then with your hands.
- Roll small pieces of dough between hands to make "logs" then shape into circles. The circles should be no bigger than the 2 inches in diameter. Roll cookies in extra sugar and place on cookie sheet.
- Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 25 minutes or until slightly brown. After cookies cool they should be hard and crisp.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- In large bowl, mix flour, baking powder and white sugar. Make a well in the center and add oil, milk, 1 tablespoon anise extract, and eggs. Mix together until dough is sticky.
- Oil fingers and pinch off dough in 1 inch pieces. Roll into a ball and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet, 1 inch apart, flatten top slightly. Bake for 8 minutes. Dip cookies in Icing while warm.
- To Make Icing: Blend in 1 teaspoon anise extract and enough hot water to 1 cup confectioner's sugar to form a smooth icing.
