ALMOST WHITE CASTLE HAMBURGERS - WHITIES - TAKE 2
Similar to recipe #109264, but different too. Try them both and decide for yourself which one you like. Of course, we think these are the BEST - hope you do too! If a product name is mentioned, it's just what we personally use or prefer; other brands will work just as well I'm sure. Got this recipe from a friend and as Lucy said: "Here is a recipe for the best Whities you've ever had! Be sure to make a bunch of them - they go like hotcakes!!!" Figure 2 to 4 Whities for appetizer servings, 3 to 8 Whities as a main course. (Remember that teenagers will consume vast amounts more than we middle aged parents!) Sometimes it's impossible to find the 24 to a package party rolls, much less in an aluminum tray. You can use the rolls in a 12-pack - you'll just end up with bigger Whities.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Brown ground beef and drain off fat if necessary.
- Add the package of onion soup mix and the cheese and mix well.
- When the cheese is melted, add the mayonnaise and mix until well blended.
- Slice horizontally through the rolls so you end up with a top and a bottom.
- Spread mixture over the bottom rolls. Add a pickle slice if desired.
- Place the top of the rolls back on and set the whole thing back into the aluminum tray the rolls came in and wrap tightly in aluminum foil. (Or just wrap in foil if there's no aluminum tray.).
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- To serve, set on plate and break apart into individual rolls.
- These freeze well, but freeze without the pickle slice. You can bake these frozen, they'll just take a little longer in the oven.

White Castle is known for its signature steamed sliders. Now, you can make them at home with this simple 5-ingredient copycat White Castle hamburger recipe.

- Create a 10x10 piece of wax paper or parchment paper and place it on a baking sheet. Place the ground beef on the paper and spread it until it's a thin, even layer about 1/4-inch thick. Using a butter knife, divide the beef into 16 equal portions to create 2-1/2 inch square patties.
- Using your finger or the back of a chopstick, create 5 holes in each patty.
- Freeze the patties for an hour.
- Rehydrate the onions by mixing them with the water. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Add the onions and water to a skillet or griddle. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat before reducing the heat to medium-low.
- Add the frozen patties to the skillet and cook the beef for 2 to 3 minutes, until the edges start to brown. Add additional water if the pan looks too dry.
- Flip the hamburger patties and top each one with the slider's bottom bun, cut-side down. Place the top bun cut-side down on top of the bottom bun and continue to cook the patties until they're browned through, an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
- Remove the top buns and set aside. Slide a spatula underneath the patty and flip it over onto a plate so it sits on the bottom bun. Top the patty with pickles (optional), a half slice of American cheese (if using), and garnish the burger with the condiments of your choice.
- Add the top bun to the burger and serve immediately.

ALMOST WHITE CASTLE HAMBURGERS
These are really close to the real thing. My family was in heaven! They're great for dinner, football parties, or kid's birthday parties. I'm not real fond of White Castle myself but I gobbled these up. Note: To freeze: Assemble hamburgers less the condiments. Flash freeze, wrap in plastic wrap, put in a ziplock bag and label. To heat: Microwave until heated through.

- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Hamburgers: Mix first 6 ingredients and press into an ungreased 10 by 15 inch jelly roll pan.
- Prick with a fork.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Drain off juices (if there's a lot of excess).
- Cool.
- Cut into 24 squares.
- Place squares on dinner rolls.
- Combine mustard and ketchup and spread on rolls.
- Top with pickles and cheese, if desired.

If you are from the Chicago area, you have heard of White Castle® hamburgers. I believe down south they are Krystal®. This is the closest I have come to the real deal. Serve each with American cheese, dill pickle slices, and Dusseldorf mustard. Enjoy!

- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- Combine ground chuck, bread crumbs, egg, onion soup mix, water, and black pepper in a bowl; press into a 10x15-inch jelly roll pan. Prick holes through the chuck mixture for ventilation while cooking.

- In a large bowl mix the ground beef, Lipton onion soup mix, peanut butter, and milk.
- Spread the meat mixture on a cookie sheet. Use a rolling pin to roll over the meat to smooth it out. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. The meat will shrink. Take it out of the oven and put the diced onions all around the edges, this will give the meat a great flavor, and bake for 15 more minutes.
- Remove from oven, then spoon the onions from the edges all over the top of the meat and layer with cheese slices. Bake another 7-10 minutes (until cheese is melted).
- Remove from oven and add the tops of the rolls (the bottom part of the rolls will just sit on the counter) and place back in the oven for about 5 more minutes.
- Take it out of the oven. Slice the meat with a pizza cutter and pick up the slider/top bun with a spatula and set it on the bottom bun.
