Steps:
- Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees F for 5 minutes, and combine water and salt in a large bowl.
- Cut the ends off the plantains and make a vertical slit through the skin, so you can easily remove the peel.
- Cut the plantains into 1-inch thick slices.
- Toss the plantain slices with 2 tsp coconut oil.
- Cook in the air fryer in a single layer for 5 minutes.
- Immediately remove the plantains and smash each slice with the bottom of a jar or a mug while they are hot.
- Dip the flattened slices in salt water quickly and set aside.
- Brush each flattened slice generously the rest of the coconut oil (3 tsp) front and back.
- Place back in the air fryer for 5-8 minutes, gently flipping them halfway through, until they are golden and crispy.
- Sprinkle with lime juice, if using, and sea salt.
- Serve immediately alone or with your favorite dip like guacamole.

- Zest the orange and mince the garlic. Mix the garlic, juice, oil, orange zest, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper together to make the flank steak marinade.
- If your steak is not a uniform ½-inch thick (1.27 cm), pound it with a mallet to get it there. This will also help to tenderize the steak.
- Pour the marinade over the flank steak. Allow it to marinate in a covered container in the fridge for 8-24 hours. (I usually just let it marinate overnight.)
- Let the steak rest at room temperature for 30-60 minutes after marinating.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.
- Air fry flank steak for a total of 8-10 minutes at 375°F (190°C). Flip the steak halfway through cooking time, and use the top rack position if you have an air fryer oven. (4 minutes per side got me medium rare, while 5 minutes per side got me medium/medium well done.)
- Check the steak for doneness using a meat thermometer. (Use the handy temperature chart for cooking flank steak in the above article.)
- After the steak is cooked, allow it to rest for 10 minutes. Slice the steak into thin slices diagonally against the grain and serve.

- Preheat your air fryer to 400℉.
- Wash and dry the plantains. Using a knife, cut off the ends of the plantain and score through the skin along the length of the plantain, being careful that you don't cut the flesh.
- Using your fingers, peel the skin away from the flesh of the plantain.
- Cut the plantain into 1-inch thick chunks.
- Transfer the chunks into the air fryer basket, and spray them with olive oil spray.
- Air fry for 3 minutes, turn plantain over, and air fry for 3 more minutes.
- Meanwhile, add the cooking oil, garlic powder, and salt to a bowl and mix.
- Remove the plantain chunks from the air fryer, and place on a cutting board. Smash them with the bottom of a mason jar or a mug.
- Dip a pastry brush into the oil mixture, and brush both sides of the smashed plantains.
- Return the plantain pieces to the air fryer basket.
- Air fry for 4 minutes, flip the tostones, and air fry them for another 4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy on the edges.

AIR FRYER TOSTONES (TWICE AIR FRIED PLANTAINS)

- With a sharp knife cut a slit along the length of the plantain skin, this will make it easier to peel. Cut the plantain into 1 inch pieces, 8 total.
- In a small bowl combine the water with salt and garlic powder.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400F.
- When ready, spritz the plantain with olive oil and cook 6 minutes, you might have to do this in 2 batches.
- Remove from the air fryer and while they are hot mash them with a tostonera or the bottom of a jar or measuring cup to flatten.
- Dip them in the seasoned water and set aside.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400F once again and cook, in batches 5 minutes on each side, spraying both sides of the plantains with olive oil.
- When done, give them another spritz of oil and season with salt. Eat right away.

- Cut the ends off of plantains and discard.
- Cut the plantains in half.
- Slice the skin of the plantain once from end to end.
- Remove the skin and discard.
- Cut each plantain into 1/2" slices.
- Place plantain slices in a bowl and pour olive oil on top.
- Mix with hands to coat well.
- Place each plantain slice into air fryer basket.
- Cook at 350° for 5-6 minutes.
- Remove plantains from air fryer basket.
- Place a piece of parchment paper on a plate or cutting board.
- Place one half cooked plantain slice on the parchment paper.
- Place another parchment paper on top and using a bowl, press down to flatten the plantain slice.
- Gently move the flatten plantain with a spatula back to the air fryer basket.

- Cut the plantains: Cut the unpeeled plantain into a little under ½ inch [1 cm] thick slices (about 8 slices per plantain).This step is if you are going to boil them, if you are going to microwave them, do not cut or peel them.
- Precook the plantains (boiled): Place the plantain into a pot and cover with water (plus about an extra inch over it). Boil over medium-high heat for about 20-25 minutes, starting counting from the time it breaks the boil. The plantain slices should be cooked completely, but still firm, if they are even a little raw in the center they will break when crushed. Carefully peel and crush one, if it flattens but not breaks, it's cooked (it will be soft and flexible, that's fine). Once cooked through, remove from the water and pat with a paper towel to whisk away excess moisture. Peel the slices using a tong to avoid burning yourself. Proceed to step 4.
- Precook the plantains (microwave): Place the plantain, unpeeled, in the microwave, and cook for 3.5-5 minutes (try with 3 ½ minutes, check for doneness and cook more if needed). The peel will break, and you can remove it with tongs to avoid burning yourself. Cut into a little under ½. Proceed to step 4.
- Flatten: If you have a tostonera (Amazon affiliate link) flatten the slices between two pieces of parchment or wax paper, so the plantain doesn't stick to the tostonera (you may grease the paper with a bit of oil for extra precaution). If you don't have a tostonera, flatten using the bottom of a glass jar, putting the plantain slices between two pieces of paper as described above. In either case, it's best if the slices are very thin (around 3 mm [⅛ "]).
- Season: Brush the flattened slices with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and garlic powder.
- How to cook tostones in air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 400 ºF [200ºC]. Place the slices of plantain in the air fryer bowl, making sure they are not piled up and return bowl to the air fryer. Cook for 15 minutes or until they turn a light golden color and are crispy around the edges.
- How to cook tostones in the oven: Preheat the oven to 400 ºF [200 ºC]. Place the slices of plantain on a wire rack, making sure they are not piled. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes or until they turn a light golden color and are crispy around the edges.

- In a large mixing bowl, drizzle with oil until plantains are fully coated
