6 pieces green shoestring licorice
6 pretzel rods
6 pieces black shoestring licorice

Steps:

  • Cut 1 green shoestring licorice into 1-in. lengths. Arrange around end of 1 pretzel rod to form broom bristles; tightly wrap bristles with 1 black shoestring licorice, tucking in end to secure. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

My family loves bread, so I try to serve some with every meal. Halloween isn't the same without these oh-so-good breadsticks.

Yield 15 servings.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2-1/3 cups biscuit/baking mix
2/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the biscuit mix, milk and Italian seasoning. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 10 times. Divide into 30 portions; set half aside. Roll the remaining 15 pieces into 7-in. ropes for broom handles; fold in half and twist. Place on ungreased baking sheets., Shape reserved pieces into 2-1/2-in. circles; cut with scissors to form a bundle of broom twigs. Place below each broom handle; pinch edges to seal. Brush with butter; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. , Bake at 450° for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm or cool on a wire rack.

1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated garlic breadsticks
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon olive oil
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cups marinara sauce

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 2 cookie sheets with cooking spray. Unroll breadstick dough on work surface. Cut dough in half crosswise, and separate to make 16 strips; cut each of the strips in half lengthwise to make 32 thin strips. Place strips on cookie sheets, 1 inch apart. Using a small paring knife or kitchen scissors, make 4 thin cuts (2 inches long) on 1 end of each strip. Spread out cut ends to make bristles of each broom. Brush dough with oil; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with marinara sauce.

These are fun cookies to make for Halloween. It was one of the many we had for our party, and they were a big hit.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
10 pretzel sticks, about 4-inch long
2 teaspoons shortening
2/3 cup chocolate chips
1/3 cup butterscotch chips, melted

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350ºF.
  • Mix brown sugar, butter, water, and vanilla in a medium sized bowl until well combined.
  • Stir in flour and salt.
  • Shape dough inot 20 - 1 1/4" balls.
  • Place pretzel rods on ungreased cookie sheet. Press a ball of dough onto the cut end of each pretzel rod.
  • Press dough with fork to resemble "bristles" of a broom, making sure to leave the pretzel rod inside the dough covered.
  • Bake about 12 minute or until set but not brown.
  • Remove from cookie sheet. Cool completely on wire rack, about 30 minute.
  • Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. Place brooms on waxed paper.
  • Heat shortening and chocolate chips over low heat in a small saucepan, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth; remove from heat.
  • Spoon melted chocolate over brooms at the point where the dough meets the pretzel rod. Cover some of the pretzel rod and some of the cookie, but not the bristles.
  • Drizzle with melted butterscotch chips across the chocolate to resemble string holding the bristles and broom together.
  • Let stand until chocolate is set.

12 thin pretzel sticks (2 1/4 inch)
1/4 cup sharp process Cheddar cheese spread (from 5-oz jar)
12 baked whole-grain wheat crackers

Steps:

  • On end of each pretzel stick, shape 1 teaspoon cheese spread into 1-inch ball.
  • With sharp knife, cut each cracker into long pieces. Press cracker pieces into cheese to resemble broom. Serve immediately, or refrigerate up to 3 hours before serving.

1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
10 pretzel rods, about 8 1/2 inches long, cut crosswise in half
2 teaspoons shortening
2/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Butterscotch-flavored chips, melted

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Mix brown sugar, butter, water and vanilla in medium bowl. Stir in flour and salt. Shape dough into twenty 1 1/4-inch balls.
  • Place pretzel rod halves on ungreased cookie sheet. Press ball of dough onto cut end of each pretzel rod. Press dough with fork to resemble "bristles" of broom.
  • Bake about 12 minutes or until set but not brown. Remove from cookie sheet. Cool completely on wire rack, about 30 minutes.
  • Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. Place brooms on waxed paper. Heat shortening and chocolate chips over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth; remove from heat. Spoon melted chocolate over brooms, leaving about 1 inch at top of pretzel handle and bottom halves of cookie bristles uncovered. Drizzle with melted butterscotch chips.
