  • Coffee. Yes, I’m one of those people that preps my Joe the night before so that I can wake up to the sweet sound of the pot brewing. And while coffee can be controversial, I’m a big fan.
  • Smoothie. This is my go-to breakfast many mornings a week. OK, it’s not really a “food,” but it is such a staple I had to put it on the list. It’s super easy to use leftovers and make something delicious.
  • Greens. I try and get greens into as many meals as possible even breakfast (see my smoothie above!). Green veggies offer a powerful dose of fiber, vitamins and minerals including antioxidants and phytochemicals which have been shown to lower cholesterol, prevent heart disease and may help reduce the risk of cancer.
  • Cold-pressed oil. Some type of oil, whether it be olive, coconut, almond or even walnut, always makes its way into my diet — multiple times a day, usually.
  • Nuts and nut butters. OK so this is technically multiple foods, but both are pantry staples in my home. You can’t beat the protein, healthy fat, fiber and antioxidant combo of nuts.

  • Whole Wheat Bread. "I never feel satisfied from a meal without a good piece of bread. It helps balance out my meal of veggies and protein and gives me just enough energy to get through to my next meal.
  • Cereal. "I eat cereal for breakfast almost every morning. It's one of my favorite foods and it's fast and requires little clean-up. Cereal gets a bad rap because of the carbohydrates, and alone it doesn't provide enough protein for breakfast.
  • Dates. "I'm a huge fan of dates and I eat them daily as either a pre-workout snack, a quick grab-n-go snack, or a mid-workout snack if I'm exercising for more than 90 minutes.
  • Rice Cakes. "I know there's not much to them and many say they are filled with air, but sometimes I just need a crunch and don't want to ruin my diet with high-calorie cracker snacks.
  • Apples. "I've eaten an apple every day since high school. Typically, I have it with breakfast; it's the perfect sweet crunch in the morning. Plus, it's a great way to get healthy, energy-revving carbs and a boost of fiber to keep my blood sugar level stable so I don't come crashing down.
