TUNA CASSEROLE

Tuna Casserole image

Break out a family favorite: tuna casserole. The traditional comfort food is great for serving large groups. In our tuna casserole recipe, we cut the sauce with chicken broth, but there's enough milk to make this casserole feel indulgent.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Ingredients     Seafood Recipes

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 11

Coarse salt and ground pepper
3/4 pound tubetti or elbow macaroni
1 cup panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)
1/2 ounce Parmesan, grated (2 tablespoons)
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 yellow onion, diced small
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1 1/2 cups whole milk
2 cans (6 ounces each) solid light tuna packed in water, drained and flaked
1 cup frozen peas, thawed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta 2 minutes less than package instructions (it will be undercooked). Drain. In a small bowl, toss together panko, Parmesan, and 2 teaspoons oil.
  • In pot, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium-high. Add onion, season with salt and pepper, and cook until softened, 8 minutes. Add flour and whisk to coat onion with flour. Slowly whisk in broth, then milk.
  • Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce comes to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring frequently, until sauce is thickened, about 8 minutes. Stir in pasta, tuna, and peas and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Transfer tuna mixture to a 9-by-13-inch baking dish and top with panko mixture. Bake until sauce is bubbling and crust is golden, 17 to 20 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes before serving.

TUNA SANDWICH

Tuna Sandwich image

Tuna Sandwich | Tuna Salad Sandwich Total time is not inclusive of chilling the filling. Read more about how this became to be one of Americ...com

Provided by Shana Shameer

Categories     Appetizers - Starters     Breads-Breakfast-Brunch     Fish & Seafood     Salads     Snacks and Savories     Wraps & Sandwiches

Time 11m

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cans (150 gms, each) Tuna - use Flakes in water
3-4 Tbsp Good quality - Mayonnaise (see notes)
1/2 tsp Mild mustard (I use Mild American Mustard)
1 Shallot, minced finely
2 tsp Dill (dill weed) , freshly chopped
1/4 tsp Black pepper powder / course grain
1/8 tsp Salt
1/8 tsp Paprika ( use regular paprika - not the smoked or hot variety)
As needed Shredded Iceberg Lettuce
As needed Preferred sandwich bread (I use large white slices of speciality sandwich bread

Steps:

  • Drain water from the canned tuna and add to a bowl.
  • Add 3-4 Tbsp Mayonnaise. You can add more or less according to preference. (See notes)
  • Stir the tuna well, so that it becomes easily spreadable.
  • Add the mustard and minced shallots.
  • Use a fork to mix and stir the tuna to get it more smooth and spreadable. I like it only slightly chunky. If you want it extremely smooth, mix further.
  • Once the texture is to your liking, add in the freshly chopped dill, salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir till thoroughly incorporated.
  • Chill the tuna spread for at least 30 minutes in the fridge for best results. The filling tastes better chilled.
  • To assemble: Shred the lettuce (rinsed and dried using a salad spinner or on kitchen paper).
  • For each sandwich, apply a thin layer of Mayo on both slices of Un-toasted bread. Spread a generous layer of chilled tuna filling on one slice and top with plenty of shredded lettuce. Place the second slice over the lettuce and use a baking scraper to press it down, to prevent finger impressions.
  • Cut the sandwich and serve while it is still chilled.
  • if you want to store them wrap in sandwich paper or saran wrap and refrigerate till ready to use.

THE BEST TUNA SANDWICH

The Best Tuna Sandwich image

Years ago, there was a deli in the town I worked and everyday faithfully, I would stop there for the Tuna sandwich (which was the best ever!) I became friends with the older lady that always worked the deli and she gave me the recipe. I will never forget what she told me.."The more colors in your Tuna, the better the flavor" sadly, the deli went out of business, but I never forgot her recipe. This tuna has lots of veggies in it, but if you dice them very small, it's so good! Remember, Tuna is a finicky meal.. too much mayo makes it watery and too little makes it dry and fishy.. be sure to use your best judgement and liking. (This recipe makes a lot) you can lessen it

Provided by D. Rose

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 25m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 (12 ounce) cans of solid albacore tuna (in water)
1 small green bell pepper (finely diced)
1 small red bell pepper (finely diced)
1 small onion (finely diced)
1 celery (finely diced)
2 medium sized dill pickles (finely diced)
4 tablespoons mayonnaise (heaping, use a regular kitchen tablespoon)

Steps:

  • Drain tuna very well and add to large bowl
  • dice all of the above very small as indicated and add to tuna.
  • I add about 3 -4 heaping kitchen sized tablespoons of Mayo into the tuna you may have to add a little more or a little less based on your preference
  • add a few shakes of black pepper and salt (opt).
  • Chill in airtight container in fridge. The longer you let it chill, the better the flavor. This can be served on pretty much any kind of bread. My personal favorite, onion rolls or seedless rye!
  • Hope you enjoy & agree this is one of the best Tuna Sandwiches!

TOP 10 REASONS TO NOT EAT TUNA - PETA

From peta.org
  • Brain Rot. Tuna fish accumulate toxic mercury in their flesh as a result of industrial pollution, and the side effects of mercury poisoning include finger curling, cognitive impairment, and coordination problems.
  • Tremendous Tuna. The largest tuna are bluefin tuna, who can reach 15 feet in length and weigh more than 1,500 pounds. Even “small” tuna species, such as yellowfin and albacore, can grow to be 6.5 feet long and weigh hundreds of pounds.
  • Heart Attack on a Hook. Eating fish is not healthy for your heart! Heavy metals are concentrated in tuna because of the contaminated fish they eat. Tuna flesh is loaded with heavy metals that attack the heart muscle, so the toxicity outweighs any possible health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Would You Eat Your Dog? How about a fish who’s as smart as a dog? Dr. Theresa Burt de Perera, an Oxford University scientist, recently published research showing that fish learn faster than dogs.
  • Sorry, Charlie. Unlike a certain cartoon tuna, fish aren’t begging to be caught. Tuna are chased until they move into a tight group, and then a net is lowered around them.
  • Death, Sopranos-Style. Think “swimming with the fishes” in reverse. “Hit men” dump smaller tuna onto ice, where they slowly freeze to death or are crushed when thousands of their schoolmates are piled on top of them.
  • Factory Fish Bowls. Because fishing trawlers are increasingly emptying the seas of more and more of their inhabitants, fish are now being raised on “farms.”
  • Sickening Sashimi. Stay away from the sushi buffet if you don’t want to spend the next day at the porcelain palace. Seafood is the number one cause of food poisoning in the United States.
  • Dolphin-Unsafe Tuna. Tuna is about as “dolphin-friendly” as a boat propeller. Even if dolphins aren’t “accidentally” trapped in tuna nets, they are still killed intentionally by Japanese tuna anglers because they prey on tuna.
  • Tuna-Safe Tuna. Vegan tuna is perfect for sandwiches, casseroles, and “fish” cakes. It is packed with protein and has an uncanny “tuna” flavor and texture, but it’s free of mercury, harmful bacteria, and suffering.
