Steps:
- For the cake: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and butter a 1 1/2-quart capacity baking dish.
- Combine the sugar with the flour in a large bowl. Pour the milk into a measuring cup, beat in the egg, vanilla and melted butter and then pour this mixture over the sugar and flour, stirring with a wooden spoon to combine. Fold in the dates then scrape into the prepared baking dish. Don't worry if it doesn't look very full; it will by the time it cooks.
- For the sauce: Sprinkle the sugar over the cake mixture and dot with butter. Pour over the boiling water (yes really!) and transfer to the oven. Set the time for 45 minutes, though you might find the dessert needs 5 or 10 minutes more. The top of the dessert should be springy and spongy when it's cooked; underneath, the butter, dark brown sugar and boiling water will have turned into a rich, sticky sauce. Serve with vanilla ice cream, creme fraiche or heavy or light cream, as you wish.

Steps:
- Move oven rack to lowest position (remove other racks). Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Beat cake mix and cold water in extra-large glass or metal bowl on low speed 30 seconds; beat on medium speed 1 minute. Pour into ungreased 10x4-inch angel food cake pan (tube pan). (Do not use fluted tube cake pan or 9x3 1/2-inch angel food pan, or batter will overflow.)
- Bake 37 to 47 minutes or until top is dark golden brown and cracks feel very dry and not sticky. Do not underbake. Immediately turn pan upside down onto glass bottle until cake is completely cool, about 1 hour. Run knife around edges; remove from pan.
- Crush or finely chop candy bars; reserve 1/3 cup. Fold remaining crushed candy into whipped topping.
- Tear cake into about 1-inch pieces. Mix cake pieces and whipped topping mixture. Press lightly in ungreased 13x9x2-inch rectangular pan. Sprinkle with reserved crushed candy. Freeze dessert about 1 1/2 hours or until firm. Cut into squares or spoon into dessert dishes. Freeze any remaining dessert.

STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING
Steps:
- For the sauce: In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 1/4 cups of the heavy cream, the sugar, corn syrup and butter. Cook, stirring often, until a dark amber color, about 40 minutes. Carefully add the remaining 1 1/4 cups heavy cream. IT WILL BUBBLE UP AND IT IS HOT!
- For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease seven 1/2 cup ramekins and set aside.
- Combine the dates and 3/4 cup water in a small saucepan and cook until the dates are softened, about 15 minutes. Puree in a blender and cool. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a small bowl and set aside.
- In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the brown sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla, egg, zest and date puree. Stir in the dry ingredients. Divide into the prepared ramekins and bake about 20 minutes. Cool slightly and remove the cakes from the ramekins. Slice the cakes in half horizontally. Rinse out the ramekins. Pour a little toffee sauce in the bottom of the ramekins and top with the bottom layer of the cake. Add more toffee sauce, place the top cake layer on top and cover with more sauce. Heat slightly before serving invert onto plate and yes ...cover with more sauce. Serve with whipped cream.
EASY STICKY-TOFFEE DESSERT
I found this in Nigella Lawson's "Nigella Bites" cookbook last night when I was searching for an easy but oh so good dessert...I love toffee pudding dessert things and this looked good...I also had all the ingredients for it. This is easy and can be thrown together when you're making other dishes and then cook while you're eating dinner...enjoy--

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375°F and butter a 1 1/2-quart capacity baking dish (I used a combo of Pam and butter and it worked fine).
- Combine the sugar with the flour in a large bowl.
- Pour the milk into a measuring cup, beat in the egg, vanilla and melted buter and then pour this mixture over the sugar and flour, stirring--just with a wooden spoon--to combine.
- Fold in the dates then scrape into the prepared baking dish.
- *Don't worry if it doesn't look very full: it will do by the time it cooks*.
- Sprinkle the sugar for the sauce over the batter and dot with the butter.
- Pour the boiling water over the whole thing (yes, really!) and transfer to the oven.
- Set timer for 45 minutes, though you might find the dessert needs 5 or 10 minutes more (this was a frustrating part, for whatever reason I ended up having to put it back in for almost 20 minutes-- but then it was very cake-like, Remember that it thickens up when you take it out).
- The top of the dessert should be springy and spongy when it's cooked; underneath, the butter, dark brown sugar and boiling water will have turned into a rich, sticky sauce.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream, creme fraiche or heavy or light cream as you wish.

- Saltine Cracker Toffee. If you’ve never tried this before, you’ll think it’s way more complicated than it really is. When, in fact, this recipe doesn’t even need a thermometer.
- Simple Toffee Popcorn Recipe. This recipe is similar to the recipe above, in that you’ll make a basic caramel recipe, pour it over the popcorn, and then let the oven finish cooking it.
- Homemade Skor Bars. Skor candy bars are made up of a thin layer of toffee covered in chocolate. Skor also makes delicious toffee bits that you can add to your baking.
- Toffee Brownies. If you like a little crunch in your brownies but need to keep them nut-free, this recipe is for you. It’s super decadent and beautifully fudgy, and the toffee bits leave behind a subtle caramel flavor along with pops of texture you’ll soon fall in love with.
- Caramel Toffee Bits Ice Cream. To make this velvety smooth ice cream, you’ll make a simple vanilla base with half and half, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla.
- No-Bake Toffee Cheesecake. Although I prefer the rich decadence of baked cheesecake, no-bake cheesecakes are a fantastic way to curb the craving in a pinch.
- Heath Bar Cookies. If you can’t find Skor toffee bits, chances are you’ll see Heath English toffee bits on the shelves instead. Heath bars are like Skor bars; only they usually include almonds.
- Banana Toffee Bread. Banana bread will always be one of my favorite things to make. And yes, I buy bananas and leave them out just so I can get baking!
- Brown Sugar Toffee With Nuts. This brown sugar brittle has such a stunning color, and the flavor is magnified, thanks to the molasses. The first step in this recipe is to get your nuts ready.
- Peanut Butter Saltine Toffee Bark. If you thought that top recipe was good, just wait until you try this one! It’s still crunchy, sweet, and superbly salty, but it also has a creamy layer of peanut butter to boot.

- Brownies–Whitecran Toffee. Crush a few pieces of Whitecran Toffee in a bowl, and sprinkle bits onto the top of your brownie batch before baking. The toffee will melt into the top crust while baking, harden when cooled, and the taste and texture will be woven into every ooey gooey bite.
- Ice Cream–Espresso Toffee. We’ve tried all of our toffee with ice cream and Espresso is by far our favourite (although they’re all superb). Crush a few pieces of Espresso Toffee and sprinkle onto any classic ice cream flavour–vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or any other flavour of your choice.
- Pecan Pie–Whitegold Toffee. This homerun pairing is one of our best! You can bake Whitegold Toffee bits into the center of the pie, or simply sprinkle them on top as soon as you take it out of the oven.
- Nanaimo Bars–Milk Toffee. We know we’re pushing the limits by altering this Canadian classic, but trust us, our toffee is the perfect twist on traditional and our Milk Toffee is a sublime addition to this near-flawless Vancouver Island staple.
- Basic Muffins–Chai Toffee. We all love a classic muffin, and now you can add the perfect spice to it! Whether it’s an on-the-go morning breakfast muffin or an afternoon treat with coffee, a few bits of Chai Toffee will add a burst of flavour to your favourite muffin recipe.
- Chocolate Cake–Cherry Toffee. I’m sure you thought a rich chocolate cake didn’t need anything more ... until now! This is a must-try! Take your traditional chocolate cake recipe (if it’s a cake in a box, we won’t judge) and mix some crushed Cherry Toffee bits into the frosting.
