ROSEMARY GIMLET

Rosemary Gimlet image

Rosemary adds a lovely resiny flavor to this cocktail, with pairs nicely with the tart lime and juniper-rich gin. However it is a flavor that can quickly overwhelm. I found the amount in the syrup that I used to be just right. But if you're a bit apprehensive, you can dial it back to 1 1/2 tablespoons (about 3g). The rosemary syrup will make enough for about eight or so cocktails. It can be kept in the refrigerator for several weeks. It's also nice drizzled over fresh orange slices for dessert. The recipe can be scaled up to whatever will fit comfortably in a cocktail shaker. Most cocktail shakers can handle two drinks at the same time.

Provided by David

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 cup (125ml) water
1/2 cup (100g) sugar
2 tablespoons (4g) coarsely chopped fresh rosemary leaves
2 ounces gin
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
3/4 ounce rosemary syrup

Steps:

  • Make the rosemary syrup by heating the water, sugar and chopped rosemary leaves in a small saucepan, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is hot and sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let the syrup cool completely. Once cool, strain the rosemary syrup into a jar, and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Chill a stemmed cocktail glass in the freezer.
  • Measure the gin, lime juice and rosemary syrup into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker halfway with ice, cover, and shake the gimlet mixture about twenty seconds, until very cold. Pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary or a slice of fresh lime.

  • Rosemary Gin Sour (aka Rosemary Gimlet) Gin sour or the Gimlet is a classic gin drink. If you add rosemary, you get a wonderful twist in this cocktail.
  • Grapefruit and Rosemary Gin Sour. If you like your gin sour a little fruity, try adding some grapefruit to it. The bitter citrus flavors and grapefruit aroma combine unbelievably well with juniper in the gin and the additional rosemary.
  • Blueberry and Rosemary Gin Sour. We usually do not think about combining rosemary with blueberries. Here is a secret – they work together brilliantly to uplift a good flavor combination to a great one.
  • Rosemary Gin Fizz. Gin Fizz is also a well known gin cocktail. It is essentially a Gimlet with fizz in it. So if you were to top up a Rosemary Gin sour with some soda water, that adds a refreshing element to the drink and converts it into a Rosemary Gin Fizz.
  • Rosemary and Mango Gin Fizz. Did you know that mango and rosemary make a killer combination? Try the above Rosemary Gin Fizz by adding in some Mango syrup to your drink.
  • Rosemary Vodka Gimlet. The Gimlet is a great drink. Add a touch of rosemary to it and it becomes even better. But if gin is not your thing, go ahead and replace it with vodka.
  • Rosemary Vodka Collins. Who does not like the classic Gin Fizz, Tom Collins or its cousin Vodka Collins? If you are looking for an added herbal flavor, then look no further.
  • Rosemary Greyhound. The unique sweet and tart from the grapefruit combines stupendously with herbal rosemary to create a fantastic summer drink. Whether made with vodka or with gin, this drink is a delight.
