1 pinch garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
1 (32 ounce) package tater tots, thawed
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of celery soup
1 (10.75 ounce) can milk
1 pinch garlic powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Crumble hamburger into a 9x13 inch baking pan. Sprinkle meat with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Cover the hamburger with tater tots.
  • In a bowl, stir together mushroom soup, celery soup and milk. Pour the soup mixture over the potatoes and hamburger and sprinkle with additional garlic powder.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 60 minutes.

I first ate this hot dish, a Midwestern favorite, on a late fall evening in the humid kitchen of the cook and television star Molly Yeh, at her farmhouse in Minnesota. The casserole accompanied venison, lefse and talk of the sugar beet harvest outside. I thrilled to the cream-beefy, umami-strong flavors that sat beneath its golden, cobbled exterior, and I loved the way the potatoes soaked up the gravy that pooled below the venison. You could substitute other ground meats for the beef, and other frozen vegetables for the peas or corn, but the tots are mandatory, and I do love the addition of cheese at the end.

1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 carrots, peeled and finely chopped
2 celery stalks, finely chopped
1 large white or yellow onion, finely chopped
Kosher salt and black pepper
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups whole milk
2 tablespoons chicken, vegetable or beef broth base or bouillon
2 pounds ground beef (about 15 percent fat)
9 ounces frozen peas or corn, or a combination
1 1/2 pounds frozen Tater Tots
1 cup shredded Cheddar (optional)
Chopped fresh parsley, for serving (optional)
Ketchup, for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Make the creamed soup: In a large pot, melt 6 tablespoons butter over medium-high heat. Add the carrots, celery, half the onion and a pinch of salt and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft, 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for another minute. Add half the milk and cook, stirring, until thickened. Add the remaining milk and cook, stirring, until very thick. Stir in the broth base, and season to taste with salt and pepper. Pour into a heat-safe bowl and set aside.
  • Wipe out the pot and set it back over medium-high heat. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter, then add the remaining onion and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring, until soft, 5 to 7 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking up with a wooden spoon, until browned. Stir in the peas or corn and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Using a slotted spoon, drain and discard any excess liquid from the beef mixture. Transfer half the mixture to a 4-quart casserole dish and spread it out evenly. Spread half the creamed soup mixture on top. (It can be tricky to spread the soup over the beef, but it's OK if it gets messy and mixes together a little bit.)
  • Add the remaining beef mixture on top in an even layer, and spread the remaining creamed soup mixture on top. Cover with Tater Tots, sprinkle with another pinch of salt and pepper, then with cheese, if using.
  • Bake until the tots are golden brown and crispy on top, about 45 minutes. Let cool slightly. Sprinkle with parsley and serve with ketchup, if using.

My husband begged me to find this recipe and make it-- its his favorite comfort food. It reminds him of his childhood, sitting down at the dinner table on a Friday night, and digging into a warm dinner that his mom had just pulled out of the oven. He loved it. I didn't care for it all that much, because I know its such a fattening dinner, but I love cooking for my husband and making him smile.

1/2 lb ground turkey or 1/2 lb chicken
1 small onion, chopped
1 1/2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
0.5 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups frozen tater tots

Steps:

  • Brown your ground meat, and drain.
  • Sautee onions and mix into the ground meat.
  • Spray a small baking dish (I used a small loaf pan) with cooking spray, and spread ground meat mixture evenly on the bottom.
  • Spread the mixed frozen veggies on top of the ground beef.
  • Next, top off the veggies with the cream of mushroom soup.
  • On top of the soup, layer the cheese.
  • Lastly, top of the cheese with the tater tots.
  • I probably used more than 2 cups of them.
  • I also sprinkled some of the cheese on top of the tots.
  • Bake in a 350 oven for 15 minutes, uncovered.
  • After 15 minutes is up, cover the pan with foil, and bake for 15 minutes more.
  • Salt and pepper to taste.
  • · This recipe originally called for 1 can of cut up tomatoes, and for the tomatoes to be layered on top of the vegetables, and the soup and tater tots on top of that.
  • I left it out because I don't like tomatoes, but I know others might like to add that in there.

This recipe is courtesy of the Duggar family with 17 kids. I got it off their website. Made it for my family and everyone loved it including my one year boy. We added cheese to ours...YUM!! Beware makes a lot of food so you may want to half it.

2 lbs ground turkey, cooked seasoned, drained
3 (2 lb) bags tater tots
2 (10 ounce) cans cream of mushroom soup
2 (8 ounce) cans evaporated milk
2 (10 ounce) cans cream of chicken soup

Steps:

  • Brown meat & place in large casserole dish.
  • Cover with tater tots.
  • Mix soup & milk together.
  • Pour over top. Bake at 350 for 1 Hour.
  • (One of Daddy's Favorites!) Makes 2- 9"X13" pans.
  • Can add cheese if you desire.

1 lb ground beef
1/2 onion (optional)
10 1/2 ounces cream of mushroom soup (one can)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 lb tater tots (about half a bag of Ore-Ida Brand)

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 450.
  • Brown the ground beef in a skillet until thoroughly cooked.
  • drain off excess grease.
  • Transfer ground beef back into skillet and add the can of cream of mushroom soup, salt and pepper; stir until mixed evenly.
  • Pour beef mixture into casserole dish and add tater tots to the top, spreading an even layer.
  • Bake for 35 minutes.
  • ENJOY!
  • *Ground the beef with the onion; chopped. Tastes really good with the onion but I've left it out for friends with Onion Allergies and I still LOVE it!

1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
1 (8 ounce) bag shredded mozzarella cheese
1 (32 ounce) bag tater tots

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 350.
  • Brown Ground Beef in a pan.
  • Drain Beef and return to pan.
  • Add Cream of Mushroom Soup.
  • Place Beef and Soup mixture in a 9x9 casserole dish.
  • Cover mixture with Mozzarella Cheese.
  • Line the top of the cheese with Tater Tots, covering as much of the cheese as you can.
  • Bake for 45 minutes at 350.
  • Aromatics (garlic, hot sauce, etc) to taste, but it's best with just a little hot sauce.
  • Enjoy.
