Getting a macro to target him when he has something else targetted doesn't seem to be the problem, it's targetting what he had targetted before he cast a spell on himself. If you turn on Autocast on Self, as someone else mentioned, this will allow you to automatically target yourself when you cast a beneficial spell, if you have no one or an enemy targetted.
