Steps:
- Preheat oven to 325º F.
- Pour navy beans into medium stockpot.
- In a medium skillet, add diced bacon, onion, and garlic. Cook until bacon is crisp and onion is tender. Remove from heat and add to navy beans.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, molasses, brown sugar, ketchup, and yellow mustard. Stir to combine well. Pour into deep dish you plan to serve from or leave in stockpot. Top with bacon and sprinkle top with brown sugar.
- Place in oven and bake 45 minutes. Increase temperature to 425º F for 10 minutes to crisp bacon. Remove from oven and allow to rest about 5 minutes before serving.

- Heat oil over high heat (can skip oil if bacon is super fatty). Add bacon and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add onion and garlic. Cook for 3 minutes until onion and bacon are golden.
- Add remaining ingredients. Stir, bring to simmer, then place lid on.
- Then either turn down heat to medium low (simmering gently) and cook on the stove for 1 hour, stirring every now and then so the bottom doesn't catch. OR bake at 160°C/325°F for 60 minutes.
- SLOW COOKER option: Reduce water to 1/4 cup, transfer to slow cooker and cook for 6 hours on low.
- The sauce should be thickened (cook with lid off for a bit if not thick enough) and glossy. Adjust salt and pepper to taste at the end. See notes for serving suggestions!

- Combine ketchup, barbeque sauce, brown sugar, mustard, worcestershire sauce, Liquid Smoke, garlic and pepper in a medium-sized bowl then mix well; set aside.
- Open each can of beans and pour off all the standing liquid in the top of the can. Discard liquid then add beans to the ketchup mixture. Mix beans gently with the ketchup mixture until thoroughly combined then pour into a shallow 2-quart baking dish.
- Cut bacon into 1/2 inch pieces then place pieces evenly in a single layer on top of beans. I like to kinda crumple each piece a bit instead of laying them flat - like little inchworms. The cute ride-on toys from the 80's not actual worms. Bake beans, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 1 to 1.5 hours or until bacon is cooked through and starting to crisp. Enjoy!
SWEET HEAT BAKED BEANS

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cook the bacon in a large ovenproof saucepan or Dutch oven until the fat is rendered and the bacon is crisp, about 7 minutes, then set aside to drain on a paper towel. Add the onion to the pan and cook until softened, 8 to 10 minutes.
- Add the beans, molasses, tomato sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, 1/4 cup water and salt and pepper to taste and stir to combine well. Let the mixture simmer for a minute or so. Transfer the pan to the oven and bake, uncovered, until the beans are very tender and dark and the sauce is thick, 1 1 /2 to 2 hours.
- Transfer to a serving dish and top with Candied Jalapenos and bits of bacon.
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Thinly slice the jalapenos and place in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets.
- Combine the brown sugar, granulated garlic, mustard, cayenne pepper and salt in a small bowl. Brush the slices of jalapeno with the olive oil. Sprinkle the sugar and spice mixture over the top. Bake until the jalapenos are crispy, 20 to 25 minutes. Set aside to cool.
SOUTHERN BARBECUE BAKED BEANS
Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a 12-inch cast iron skillet or similar, saute the green pepper, onion and ground beef in reserved bacon drippings until no pink remains in the beef. Season with seasoned salt and black pepper to your taste. After browning, drain any excess fat from the pan.
- To the skillet add beans, barbecue sauce, chili style tomatoes, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, whole grain mustard and barbecue seasoning. Stir until the ingredients are well blended. Add crumbled bacon.
- Place into the oven and bake for 60-75 minuites.
- Stir well, and allow the baked beans to rest for 5-10 minutes on the counter before serving to allow the sauce to thicken.

- In a heavy pot, cook the bacon over medium heat to render the fat, about 5 minutes. Discard all but 2 tablespoons fat.
- Add the onion, pepper, and garlic and cook until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes. I have several recipes for baked beans, and they all seem to suit a particular time of year or occasion. These are the baked beans I traditionally make on Super Bowl Sunday. They go very well with my pulled pork and other dishes on my menu. I do warn you that this recipe makes a LOT of beans. This recipe is easily increased or decreased. Use a 28-ounce can of beans for every six guests.

- Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position. Heat oven to 325 degrees. In a large pan, fry bacon until it is partially cooked and you have about 1/4 cup of drippings. Remove bacon from pan and drain on paper towels.
- Add onion and bell pepper to drippings in pan and sauté until tender, about 5 minutes. Add beans, bacon and remaining ingredients; bring to a simmer. (If there's not enough room in the pan, add beans and heat to a simmer; transfer to a large bowl and stir in remaining ingredients).
- Pour flavored beans into a greased 9-by-13-inch (or similar size) oven-proof pan (a large, wide casserole allows the beans to thicken nicely). - Add dry beans to a large container and fill with cold water. Soak overnight. The following day, add beans and their soaking water to a large pot and bring up to a simmer. Cook until tender, between 1 and 2 hours. Drain the beans while reserving the liquid.
- Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F.
- Pour your beans into a large casserole dish and spread evenly, layer bacon and onion on top.

- Cut bacon into 2 inch slices and cook in large fry pan with onions and green peppers until tender and bacon fat is rendered.
