Chili can be hit or miss with many kids. But this Sweet Chili Recipe is always a favorite with everyone who tries it!

6-8 slices bacon
1 pound ground beef
1 large sweet pepper, chopped
33 ounces tomato sauce (1 box)
1/4 cup molasses or brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
2 large cans baked beans
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
1-2 cups corn, optional

Steps:

  • In a large stock pot cook 4-6 slices of cut up bacon over medium high heat until it looks about half way done - just about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add a chopped pepper (any color) to the bacon and continue to cook another 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add 1 lb ground beef and continue to cook until book is thoroughly cooked.
  • Now add the remaining ingredients and continue cooking until heated thoroughly, about 7-8 more minutes.
  • Serve with cornbread or tortilla chips.

1/4 Cup Dried Minced Onion

Steps:

  • In a large skillet on the stove top brown the ground beef and drain off any excess cooking fat from the meat.
  • Add the cooked ground beef and the remaining ingredients in a 6 quart or larger slow cooker and stir to combine.
  • Cover and cook for 6 hours on LOW or 3 hour on HIGH.
  • Serve chili in bowls topped with your favorite chili toppings such as shredded cheddar or jack cheese, diced onion, sour cream, etc. if desired.

1 pound ground beef
6 cloves garlic, finely chopped - or more to taste
2 tablespoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 tablespoon dried basil
2 (15 ounce) cans light red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 (15 ounce) cans dark red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
3 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
2 (15 ounce) cans corn
3 tablespoons white sugar
salt and ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Crumble ground beef into a skillet over medium heat. Stir garlic, oregano, chili powder, and basil into the beef; cook and stir until beef is completely browned, 7 to 10 minutes.
  • Combine light red kidney beans, dark red kidney beans, diced tomatoes, and corn in crock of a slow cooker. Stir cooked ground beef into the bean mixture.
  • Cook on Medium-Low for 2 hours. Stir sugar into the chili and continue cooking as long as you can wait, at least 6 hours. Season with salt and black pepper to serve.

1/3 cup sweet chili sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 bunch bok choy (400 grams baby quartered lengthwise)
1 carrot (small cut into matchsticks)
1/2 capsicum (red medium thinly sliced)
4 (150 g) fish fillets (firm white)
1 1/4 cups jasmine rice (or long grain white)
270 ml coconut milk
coriander (sprigs to serve)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 180C (160C fan forced).
  • Tear off 4 pieces of foil about 40cm long and place on a flat work surface and top each piece with a piece of baking paper.
  • Combine chilli sauce, oyster sauce and sesame oil in a small jug.
  • At centre of each piece of paper, place a quarter of the bok choy, carrot and capsicum and top with the fish and then drizzle with sauce mixture and then top with the ginger and fold to make a parcel.
  • Place seam side down on a baking tray and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until cooked (fish will flake when tested with a fork).
  • Place rice in a medium saucepan and wash under cold water until water runs clear and drain.
  • Add coconut milk and 1 1/2 cups of water and cover with a titght fitting lid and bring to the boil, reduce hat and cook rice for 10 to 12 minutes or until liquid is alsmost absorbed.
  • Remove rice from the heat and stand for 5 minutes (DO NOT lift lid).
  • Fluff with a fork to separate grains.
  • Remove fish from parcels and serve with rice and top with coriander.

1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 lime, juice only
Green lettuce
1 medium Daikon radish, shredded
1 cup diced cucumber
2 cups shredded carrot
1/2 red onion, sliced
Sweet peppers, chopped
Fresh cilantro, garnish
6 tortillas or wraps
Sweet Chili Sauce, garnish

Steps:

  • 1) In a medium pot, combine chicken, sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, and lime juice over medium heat. Cover and let simmer, stirring occasionally for 15-20 minutes, until chicken is cooked.
  • 2) Shred chicken into chunks when it is cooked through, uncover the pot, turn heat down to low, and let chicken simmer and thicken while you make the rest of the toppings.
  • 3) Wash and dry lettuce, shred carrots and prepare other vegetables.
  • 4) To make a wrap, lay a few pieces of lettuce on a wrap of your choice, top with shredded veggies and big spoonfuls of chicken (drain off any extra liquid). Drizzle on extra sweet chili sauce and roll wrap up. Serve immediately!

1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup water
sriracha to taste ((optional))
2-4 tablespoons Asian sweet chili sauce ((I use Mae Ploy)**)
1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/3 cup ketchup
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons quality hoisin sauce ((like Lee Kum Kee or Kikkkoman)***)
2 tablespoons rice wine
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder (or 3-4 garlic cloves minced)
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ginger powder (or 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
toasted sesame seeds
chopped green onions

Steps:

  • Add chicken to the bottom of your crockpot.
  • Whisk the Sweet Chili Sesame Sauce ingredients together in a medium bowl. Pour over chicken.
  • Cook on low for 5-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours OR until the chicken is tender enough to shred.
  • Shred chicken in the crockpot and add 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 1/4 cup water to the crockpot. Stir contents around. Cook on high for 20-30 minutes until sauce thickens. Taste and add Sriracha for spicier, brown sugar for sweeter if desired. *Alternatively, you can add the cornstarch slurry and liquid from the crockpot to a saucepan and simmer until thickened on the stove - this will create a thicker sauce.*
  • Serve with rice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.

2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
2 chicken breasts diced

2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
1 tbsp vegetable oil
320 g vegetable stir fry mix
1 garlic clove minced
half bunch of spring onions
boiled rice or noodles

Steps:

  • Place the chicken onto a plate, add the cornflour, salt and pepper, toss together to coat the chicken.
  • Add the oil to a wok and heat on high. When the oil is very hot, add in the chicken and fry for 5-6 minutes until lightly browned.
  • Add in the vegetable stir fry mix and fry for a further two minutes
  • Add in the garlic, soy sauce, white wine vinegar, brown sugar and sweet chilli sauce. Continue to heat on high, tossing everything, until heated through. Check the chicken is cooked by taking a large piece and slicing in half.
  • Stir through the chopped spring onions and coriander.
  • Serve with rice or noodles.

  • Make the oyster omelet: Shuck oysters, reserving any juice in shells. If the oysters are large, cut them in half. Whisk the sweet potato starch into 1/4 cup water in a medium bowl. Stir in salt, oysters, and any oyster juice.
  • Heat oil in a medium nonstick skillet over high. Let it get quite hot, then add the oyster mixture. Reduce heat, and let mixture set into a thick, translucent pancake with a jelly-like consistency, about 4 minutes. Stir in spinach and scallions.
  • Break eggs into a bowl, stir them with a fork, then add them to the skillet. Allow to just set, then flip the omelet as gently as you can (don’t worry if it breaks). Cook until bottom is just set but eggs are still a little runny, about 1 minute. Flip the omelet onto a plate, and serve with the sweet chili sauce. (It might not be pretty, but you’re going to top it with sweet chili sauce, so it doesn’t matter.)

  • In a small bowl whisk together chili sauce, soy sauce, water and cornstarch until combined and set aside.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a cast iron skillet on medium high heat, add the peppers, onions and asparagus and garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes just to softened them. Remove veggies to a plate.
  • Add another tablespoon of oil to the skillet and add shrimp to pan and cook for 2 minutes then flip and cook another 2 minutes. Or until they are pink and firm and cooked through. Remove to the plate.
  • Add the sauce mixture into the skillet, simmer for 2 minutes or until sauce is thickened. Add veggies and shrimp back into the pan. Serve and enjoy!
