- Mix dark brown sugar, cornstarch, garlic powder, and ground ginger together in a saucepan until well-combined. Add red wine vinegar, pineapple juice, and soy sauce. Cook and stir over medium heat until bubbling, about 8 minutes. Add crushed pineapple; cook until thickened, 2 to 3 minutes more.

SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE

- Heat a wok or saucepan over high heat and add the oil. When the oil is hot, add the ginger and garlic. Stir-fry just until fragrant, and then add the juice, vinegar, brown sugar and soy sauce. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar has dissolved. Stir in the cornstarch and water mixture and cook until thickened, about 1 minute. Stir into any nearly completed stir-fry dish and bring to a boil until the sauce thickens, about 1 minute.

Quick and easy to make. Feel free to make substitutions. You can substitute ketchup for chili sauce and cider vinegar for wine vinegar; still tastes great. I usually double the recipe.

- In a bowl, lightly beat the egg.
- Add 2 tablespoons of ketchup, mustard, bread crumbs, dry soup mix, salt and pepper.
- Crumble beef over mixture and mix well.
- Shape into an oval loaf.
- Place in a shallow 1-qt microwave-safe dish; cover with waxed paper.
- Microwave on high for 11-12 minutes or until meat is no longer pink, rotating a half turn once; drain.

- Combine the 1/2 cup water, vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup and soy sauce in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil over medium high heat.
- Meanwhile, combine cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of cold water in a small bowl until well mixed.
- Once the sauce mix has come to a boil, stir in the cornstarch slurry and stir constantly, for about a minute, until the sauce has thickened.
- Remove from heat and use immediately or store in a jar or air-tight container for up to 2 weeks. Reheat and add extra water, as needed, to get it to the right consistency.
