I found this recipe in a movie magazine some 20 years ago. It was the favorite of some male star, but I don't remember which one. Its great flavor and the fact that leftovers just get better have made it a family favorite! -Karen Dunn, Kansas City, Missouri

1-1/2 pounds beef top sirloin steak, cut into thin strips
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons olive oil, divided
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1/2 cup reduced-sodium beef broth
1/3 cup dry red wine or additional reduced-sodium beef broth
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
3 cups hot cooked brown rice

Steps:

  • Sprinkle beef strips with salt and pepper. In a large nonstick skillet, brown beef in 1 teaspoon oil. Remove and keep warm. , In the same skillet, saute onions in remaining oil until tender. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Stir in the tomatoes, broth, wine, bay leaf, basil and thyme. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes. , Return beef to the pan; cook for 2-4 minutes or until tender. Discard bay leaf. Serve with rice. Freeze option: Freeze cooled beef mixture in freezer containers. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Heat through in a saucepan, stirring occasionally and adding a little broth or water if necessary.

2 Tbsp. oil, divided
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/4 cup chopped green peppers
1 clove garlic, minced
1 lb. beef sirloin tip steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
3 Tbsp. flour, divided
1-1/2 cups fat-free reduced-sodium beef broth, divided
2 Tbsp. lite soy sauce
2 Tbsp. LEA & PERRINS Reduced Sodium Worcestershire Sauce
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1 cup long-grain white rice, uncooked

Steps:

  • Heat 1 Tbsp. oil in large skillet on medium heat. Add onions, green peppers and garlic; cook and stir 5 min. or until onions are tender. Remove vegetables from skillet.
  • Toss meat with 2 Tbsp. flour in large bowl. Heat remaining oil in same skillet. Add meat; cook 8 to 10 min. or until browned on all sides, stirring frequently.
  • Add 1-1/4 cups broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce and black pepper to skillet; mix well. Stir in vegetables. Bring to boil; partially cover. Simmer on low heat 1 hour or until meat is tender, stirring occasionally.
  • Meanwhile, cook rice as directed on package, omitting salt.
  • Mix remaining broth and remaining flour in small bowl until blended. Stir into meat mixture; bring to boil, stirring constantly. Simmer on medium-low heat 2 to 3 min. or until thickened. Serve over rice.

1 Lb pkg stew meat ( more if large family)
1 Can beef gravy
Rice prepared according to pkg directions
OPTIONAL SEASONINGS:
salt, pepper, onions, bell peppers, garlic and another can of gravy, oh and you can also add mushrooms,.

Steps:

  • 1. Place Stew meat in the Crock Pot
  • 2. Cover with Gravy, Add Optional Seasonings to your Liking.
  • 3. Cook on Low, 7-8 hrs. . OR. . . on high 3-4 hrs.

1 1/2 lbs beef stew meat (or chuck roast cut into bite-size pieces)
1 large onion, sliced into rings
1 (12 ounce) jar beef gravy
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 cups hot cooked rice

Steps:

  • If using oven, preheat to 325 degrees.
  • Combine the beef and onion in a 4-quart slow cooker or a Dutch oven with a lid.
  • Cover with the beef gravy and sprinkle with the salt and pepper.
  • If using a slow cooker, cover and seal the pot and cook until the meat is fork tender, 7-8 hours on LOW, 3-4 hours on HIGH.
  • If using Dutch oven, cover and bake until the meat is fork tender, 2 horus.
  • Spoon over the hot cooked rice to serve.

2 lbs stew meat (trimmed)
24 ounces Italian dressing (1 large bottle)
1 -2 au jus gravy (if using packets-add water as instructed on packet)
3 cups rice (I use Uncle Bens long grain)
cornstarch (cornstarch & water to thicken)
oil (to brown beef)

Steps:

  • Marinade beef in italian dressing overnight if possible.
  • Brown beef in skillet with some oil if needed, save italian dressing to add later. (I skip browning the beef on occasion, and turns out just fine).
  • In a large pot, pressure cooker, crockpot or oven dish, add au jus gravy, 1/2-all of the remaining italian dressing, and beef. Cover and cook on med low, or at 325 (for oven).
  • Cook until tender (crockpot 8-10 hrs, Oven 2-3 hrs).
  • Start rice and cook according to directions. Can add some butter to rice.
  • Before serving: In a cup, add about a teaspoon of cornstarch and enough water to make into paste. Add to meat mixture and stir.

1 ½ pounds round steak
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 green bell pepper
1 (29 ounce) can diced tomatoes
4 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cube beef bouillon cube
¼ cup soy sauce
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon ground ginger
2 cups water
1 cup white rice
2 cups water

Steps:

  • Trim any fat from round steak and slice meat into thin 2 to 3 inch long strips. Remove the seeds and core from the green bell pepper, and slice into thin 3 inch long strips.
  • In a large frying pan over medium to high heat add oil and cook meat until medium rare, add peppers and continue cooking until meat is browned.
  • Reduce heat to simmer and add tomatoes, soy sauce, garlic powder, black pepper and ginger. Cover and simmer 10 minutes.
  • Dissolve bullion cube and corn starch in 2 cups water and stir well before adding to simmering beef. Cover and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce resembles the consistency of gravy. Remove from heat and serve over a bed of rice.
  • To cook rice: In a saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Stir in 1 cup of rice. Cover and reduce heat to a simmer. Simmer for 20 minutes.

My mother used to make this for us all of the time, this is by far my best recipe to share. I always use 1/8 tsp of garlic powder instead of messing with real garlic and this recipe can use very inexpensive cuts of meat because it cooks for so long but it is always very tender!

2 lbs beef, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can condensed beef consomme
1/3 cup red Burgundy wine (or cranberry cocktail)
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 garlic clove
1/4 teaspoon onion salt
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup water
4 cups cooked rice

Steps:

  • Heat oil in skillet, brown meat and garlic on all sides.
  • Stir in consomme, wine, soy sauce and onion salt - heat to boiling.
  • Reduce heat; cover and simmer 1 hour or until meat is tender.
  • Blend cornstarch and water; stir gradually into meat mixture.
  • Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
  • Boil and stir 1 minute.
  • Serve over rice.

3 lbs sirloin tip steaks, cut into 1-inch cubes
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
5 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 large yellow onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
4 cups water
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/3 cup water
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
hot cooked rice
1/2 tablespoon dried parsley, for garnish

Steps:

  • In a large Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add onion, bell pepper and garlic.
  • Cook for about 5 minutes or until veggies are tender.
  • Remove veggies from pan and place on a dinner plate.
  • In a bowl, toss together beef tips and 1/3 cup flour.
  • Add remaining 3 tablespoons of oil to the Dutch oven.
  • Place beef tips in Dutch oven and brown on all sides and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring regularly.
  • Add veggies back to the Dutch oven.
  • Add 4 cups water, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt and pepper, stirring well.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and cover partially.
  • Let simmer for 1 hour.
  • In a small bowl, combine 1/3 cup cold water and 3 tablespoons flour, mix well.
  • Add flour mixture to the beef tips, cooking for 2-3 minutes or until mixture thickens.
  • Serve over hot cooked rice.
  • Garnish with parsley.

  • Cut the chuck roast into 1" cubes using a very sharp knife. Allow to sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes to remove the chill.
  • Pat the cubes dry with a paper towel and transfer to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of oil, 2 teaspoons Kosher salt, 1 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon garlic powder. Massage the seasoning into the beef cubes and set aside.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of oil to a large pan (equipped with a fitted lid) or a Dutch oven over high heat and allow to come to temperature. Sear the cubes in 2 batches. Sear for 3 minutes on one side, then flip and sear 3 minutes more. Transfer beef cubes to a plate and set aside.
  • Add a 1/4 cup of beef broth to the pan to deglaze, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Reduce the heat the medium-high and add the yellow onion. Sauté for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
