Provided by Erica Walker

Categories     Dinner     Main Course

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 16

2/3 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
2/3 cup beef broth
2 tablespoons brown sugar
4 cloves garlic (minced)
2 teaspoons minced ginger
1 teaspoon cornstarch
16 ounces boneless beef sirloin steak (sliced thin)
16 ounces linguini noodles
4 teaspoons canola oil (divided)
1 red bell pepper (sliced thin)
1 onion (sliced thin)
2 carrots (sliced into match-sticks)
2 cups broccoli florets
2 cups cabbage (shredded)
sesame seeds (to taste (optional))
red pepper flakes (to taste (optional))

Steps:

  • Combine soy sauce, broth, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger in a small mixing bowl. Place half of the mixture in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag, add sliced beef, seal (pressing as much air out as you can), and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  • Add cornstarch to remaining mixture in bowl and stir until smooth, cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Prepare linguini noodles according to package directions. While noodles are cooking, heat 2 teaspoons oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and add steak slices, discarding excess marinade. Stir-fry until just browned, remove steak from skillet and set aside.
  • Add remaining oil to the same skillet and stir-fry peppers, onion, carrots, and broccoli until onions become clear and soft. Add cabbage and beef to the skillet and cook until cabbage becomes soft.
  • When noodles are done cooking, drain and toss with beef/vegetable mixture, adding the reserved sauce mixture. Toss until noodles are coated in sauce. Top with sesame seeds and/or red pepper flakes (optional) and serve immediately.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     main-dish

Time 40m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 1/2 pounds flank steak
5 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for the grill
4 tablespoons Thai red curry paste
6 ounces rice vermicelli
2 red bell peppers, sliced into thick strips
12 ounces green beans, trimmed
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1/4 cup fresh lime juice (from 2 to 3 limes)
2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
2 teaspoons fish sauce
1 teaspoon Asian chili-garlic sauce
1 cup fresh basil

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Meanwhile, preheat a grill to medium high and line one side with foil. • Add the rice noodles to the boiling water and cook as the label directs. Drain and rinse under cold water; shake off the excess water. Snip the noodles into pieces with kitchen shears.

Grill the vegetables, stirring, until charred, about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, season the steak with salt and pepper and cook on the other side of the grill until marked, 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium rare; transfer to a cutting board. Chop the vegetables.
  • Whisk the remaining 3 tablespoons vegetable oil with the lime juice, brown sugar, fish sauce, chili-garlic sauce and 2 tablespoons water in a large bowl. Add the rice noodles, vegetables and basil; season with salt and pepper and toss. Divide among plates. Thinly slice the steak and add to the plates.

Categories     winter     comfort food     dinner     main dish     meat     stews

Time 2h5m

Yield 4-6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

3 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. seasoned salt, divided
1 tsp. ground black pepper, divided
1 1/2 lb. beef stew meat (or chuck roast), cut into 1" pieces
2 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp. olive oil
1 yellow onion, chopped
12 oz. sliced mushrooms
4 garlic cloves, chopped
1 qt. beef stock
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
4 sprigs of thyme
1 12-oz. bag frozen egg noodles, such as Reames brand
Sour cream and chopped parsley, for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour and 1/2 teaspoon each of seasoned salt and black pepper. Add the cubes of beef to the bowl and stir until well coated.
  • Heat a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the butter and olive oil, swirling to coat the bottom of the pan. Place the meat in a single layer and cook until golden brown, 4 to 5 minutes. Stir the beef and let brown on another side, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove the Dutch oven from the heat and transfer the beef to a plate.
  • Reduce the heat to medium and add the onion, mushrooms, garlic and remaining 1/2 teaspoon each of seasoned salt and black pepper. Cook for 7 minutes, stirring occasionally and scraping the browned bits from the bottom of the pot. Add the beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, seared beef, and thyme sprigs. Bring to a simmer, cover, then reduce heat to low. Cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes, with the stock just barely simmering.
  • Remove the lid and discard the thyme sprigs. Add the egg noodles and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue to cook for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the noodles are tender. Serve immediately, topped with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of parsley.

GINGER GARLIC STEAK AND NOODLE SALAD

Ginger Garlic Steak and Noodle Salad image

One of our favorite restaurants makes a beef and noodle dish, and I had to make it my own. I created this salad using some of my favorite ingredients: I love what the heat of the Fresno adds against the sweetness of the mango. I even got my kale in there, too!

Provided by Katie Lee Biegel

Categories     main-dish

Time 6h

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 30

1/4 cup avocado or vegetable oil
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 pound skirt steak
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 lime
4 ounces udon noodles (see Cook's Note)
1/2 cup avocado oil or vegetable oil
2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon grated garlic
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Juice of 1 1/2 limes
2 cups finely shredded napa cabbage
1 bunch Tuscan kale, stemmed and finely shredded
1 cup carrot ribbons
1 cup whole fresh cilantro leaves
1/2 cup whole fresh mint leaves
4 scallions, thinly sliced
1 Fresno or jalapeño chile, sliced into thin rings
1 cup thinly sliced mango
1/2 cup chopped roasted, salted peanuts
Lime wedges, for serving

Steps:

  • For the steak: In a wide, shallow container with a lid, add the avocado or vegetable oil, soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic and sesame oil. Whisk to combine. Add the steak and coat in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for 4 to 6 hours. Remove the steak from the refrigerator to come to room temperature before cooking, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade, pat dry and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side for medium-rare with an internal temperature of 125 degrees F. Remove from the heat and set aside to rest, about 10 minutes. Squeeze the juice of the lime on the rested steak and slice against the grain.
  • For the salad: Cook the udon noodles according to the package instructions.
  • In a small bowl, combine the avocado or vegetable oil, soy sauce, vinegar, honey, mustard, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, salt and lime juice. Whisk thoroughly to combine and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the cabbage and kale. Add the carrots, cilantro, mint, scallions, chiles and noodles and toss to combine. Add the dressing and toss to coat. Add the mango and gently toss. Sprinkle the salad with the peanuts. Arrange the steak over the salad.
  • Divide the salad and steak among plates. Serve with lime wedges.

HOME-STYLE BEEF-N-NOODLES W/MUSHROOMS & ONIONS

Home-Style Beef-N-Noodles W/Mushrooms & Onions image

Wish you could smell my kitchen right now, I'm dyin'! Made a huge pot of this for catering tomorrow. It's taking everything I've got not to just dive into the pot! This serves at least 10-12, but you can easily cut it in half, or freeze the leftovers for a rainy (or snowy!) day! I'm serving them this with my green beans w/bacon, onions and balsamic vinegar, homemade bread knots, and cherry pie a la mode! (I'll post my green bean recipe for you, too).

Provided by Wildflour

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 2h15m

Yield 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

7 1/2-8 lbs boneless beef chuck roast, cut into LARGE chunks bigger than bite-sized
fresh coarse ground black pepper
oil
1 (32 ounce) box beef broth
1 large onion, cut into 1/2-inch sections and separated
1 (1 ounce) envelope French onion soup mix
1/4 cup A.1. Original Sauce
1 tablespoon minced garlic
4 tablespoons butter
salt, don't be shy with it
2 (8 ounce) containers fresh sliced mushrooms
4 tablespoons cornstarch
4 tablespoons cold water
2 (16 ounce) bags reames home-style frozen egg noodles, cooked and drained

Steps:

  • Try to find two 4 lb. chuck roasts, and cut the excess slab of fat off the top. Cut into LARGE bite-sized pieces because beef shrinks when it cooks. You want to end up with nice big chunks! :).
  • In large metal roaster that you can use on the stove, lightly brown meat on all sides over medium-high heat in a little oil. You may have to do this in frying pan(s).
  • *Pepper beef lightly to liberally with coarse ground pepper as you add it to the roaster or frying pan. (Should take about 10 minutes.).
  • When beef is lightly browned on the outside, add broth, onion, soup mix, A-1, garlic, butter and a nice amount of salt. Add salt a 1/2 teaspoons at a time so you don't over do it.
  • Bring to a boil, cover with lid, turn down heat and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Stir occasionally.
  • Add mushrooms, recover, and simmer 15-20 minutes longer.
  • Remove lid.
  • Mix cornstarch and cold water, add, stirring. Simmer, stirring only occasionally, for another 5 minutes til thickened a bit.
  • Fold in cooked, drained noodles.
  • Serve with warm crusty bread and butter, and a side vegetable such as green beans, or salad.
  • *You can add another 1/2 to 1 bag more cooked noodles if you want to stretch this out. I make it hearty, full of lots of meat, though; when it's being considered as a "main dish".
  • If you stretch it out though, you may need to add a cup or so of beef bouillon. Just see what you end up with, add as needed.
  • ***! This last time I made this, I added 1 tbsp horseradish and 1 tbsp spicy brown mustard to the pot while the beef was simmering. It was EVEN BETTER! *Don't worry, it doesn't taste like you added it, it just added more flavor and totally mellowed out especially after the noodles were added and sat on LOW HEAT for about another hour or so.I took this to my sister's Christmas party and everyone loved it! People even asked for the recipe. :) (I should have thought of it before, because that's how I make my pot roast anyways! :) And NO ONE knows it's in there!) *I used (about)6 1/2 lbs. beef, 2 1/2 bags noodles and added an extra 3 tbsp butter because I thought I had added a bit too much salt. It was really good! Hope ya try it! :).

PEPPER STEAK WITH NOODLES

Pepper steak with noodles image

Try our pepper steak with noodles for a simple, balanced, midweek meal that's full of flavour. Top with sesame seeds and crushed peppercorns to serve

Provided by Melissa Thompson - Journalist and food writer

Categories     Dinner

Time 27m

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 tbsp light soy sauce
4 tbsp shaohsing wine (or dry sherry)
3 garlic cloves, crushed
1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and grated
450g steak (skirt steak works well)
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tbsp cornflour
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 onion, cut into thick slices
1 red and 1 yellow pepper, both cut into 1-inch pieces
pinch of sesame seeds
1-2 tsp crushed black peppercorns
500g cooked noodles, to serve

Steps:

  • Mix 1 tbsp of the soy with 1 tbsp of the shaohsing wine, 1 crushed garlic clove and half the ginger. Pour over the steak and leave for at least 20 mins or up to 1 hr. Heat a frying pan over a high heat until very hot. Take the steak out of the marinade and scrape off as much of it as you can. Rub with the vegetable oil and put in the frying pan. Leave for 2 mins, then gently move it around to catch any bits of char, which will add to the flavour. After another 30 seconds, turn the steak and cook for 2½ mins on the other side. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • Mix the cornflour into the remaining soy sauce and shaohsing wine and add 150ml water. Heat the sesame oil in a wok or frying pan over a medium-high heat and add the onion. Cook for 1 min, stirring, then add the peppers. Cook for 4 mins, stirring regularly. Once they are starting to soften with bits of char on them, add the remaining garlic and ginger, and soy mixture. As soon as the sauce starts to thicken, remove from the heat.
  • Slice the steak thinly and add to the wok, just stirring through. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds and crushed peppercorns and serve with the noodles.
