POLISH NOODLES (COTTAGE CHEESE AND NOODLES)
This simple recipe came from the Polish side of my family. We simply called it 'cottage cheese and noodles' or 'lazy man pierogies.' It's a great comfort food and can be made with any kind of noodle. It could be a side dish, but we always enjoyed it as a meal.

GARLIC NOODLES
These deceivingly simple, yet devastatingly delicious garlic noodles were invented back in the '70s at a restaurant in San Francisco called Thanh Long. Usually served with roasted Dungeness crab, the recipe is a very closely guarded family secret, but after lots of investigation, and even more experimentation, I think this is very close.

- Aran Goyoaga’s Spiced Sweet Potato Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. Sour cream cuts right though the cream cheese’s fattiness to create a lighter, brighter frosting.
- Jake Cohen’s Just-Add-Sour-Cream Caramelized Onion Dip. We love packet French onion dip too, but trust: This recipe blows it away. Think sweet onions, leeks and chives united in jammy, caramelized harmony.
- Meal-Prep Creamy Kale Caesar Salad. This enviable lunch costs less than $3 per serving and it’ll only take you 15 minutes to prepare. (Sour cream is the source of the dressing’s creaminess, BTW.)
- 20-Minute Mashed Potatoes. Bookmark this recipe for every hectic holiday you ever host. The spuds are boiled in butter, milk and seasonings instead of water to speed the process along.
- Classic Banana Bread. Sour cream guarantees that this loaf turns out uber moist every time. If you don’t have enough of the condiment on hand, you can substitute yogurt, mascarpone cheese or buttermilk.
- Easy 30-Minute Beef Stroganoff. The secret to this unapologetically rich beef stroganoff? A hearty dollop of sour cream that’s stirred into the thick, mushroom-laden sauce.
- Cake Batter Dip. Sprinkles are always a hit in our book. Microwave the cake mix in 30-second intervals until it reaches 165°F—this makes the raw flour safe to consume.
- Strawberry Galette with Whipped Cream. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill fruit galette, thanks to rosemary in the crust, balsamic vinegar in the filling and sour cream in the whipped cream.
- Loaded Baked Potato ‘Chips’ Trade a fluffy baked potato for crispy, paper-thin potato chips, but keep all the essential fixings. Excuse us while we inhale an entire batch in one sitting.
- Jake Cohen’s Kugel and Cheese. Think of this baked beauty as a cross between noodle kugel and mac and cheese. (It’s positively packed with fresh mozzarella, Gruyère and sharp cheddar cheeses.)
