This is the recipe my mother used for sloppy joes and it always gets compliments!

1 pound lean ground beef
¼ cup chopped onion
¼ cup chopped green bell pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
¾ cup ketchup
3 teaspoons brown sugar
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper; drain off liquids.
  • Stir in the garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Really tasty change up on burritos.

10 - flour burrito shells
2 pound(s) ground beef
1/2 cup(s) red onions chopped
3 - jalapeno peppers seeded and chopped
4 clove(s) garlic minced
2 package(s) brown gravy mix prepared as directed
15 ounce(s) can tomato sauce
3/4 cup(s) brown sugar
1/4 cup(s) chili sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
2 cup(s) shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Brown the ground beef with the onions, jalapenos, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Make the gravy as directed. Add the tomato sauce, brown sugar and chili sauce.
  • Drain the ground beef. Add 1/2 of the gravy mixture. Let simmer 10 minutes.
  • Heat the burrito shells in microwave. Add ground beef mixture and fold burrito style. Spoon remaining gravy over top of burrito. Top with shredded cheese. Serve with sour cream if desired

A great, tangy take on the traditional bean burrito with Sloppy Joe filling. Very simple and quick to prepare and mild enough that kids love it.

1 pound lean ground beef
1 (15.5 ounce) can Sloppy Joe sauce
1 (30 ounce) can refried beans
6 (10 inch) flour tortillas
1 ½ cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup diced black olives, drained
1 cup sour cream
1 medium red onion, diced

Steps:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard grease.
  • Reduce heat to medium and stir in Sloppy Joe sauce. Stir in refried beans until blended and cook until heated through, 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, warm tortillas over medium-low heat on a flat skillet.
  • Fill tortillas with meat mixture and top as desired with Cheddar cheese, black olives, sour cream, and diced onion.
