A simple sweet tea recipe that anyone can do.

8 cups water
4 family-sized tea bags
2 cups white sugar

Steps:

  • Bring water to a boil in a pot. Dissolve sugar in boiling water; remove from heat.
  • Steep tea bags in water to desired strength of tea, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Refrigerate tea until cold, at least 1 hour.

This is my (southern) wife's recipe, she introduced me to it when we first met, and I have been drinking it daily ever since. In the last few years due minor sugar reductions we have lowered the sugar level from 2/3 cup to 1/2. I really have not noticed much of a difference. I still sometimes like really sweet southern sweet tea, but this is a daily drinker.

4 cups water, Boiling
2 large luzianne brand family-size tea bags or 6 small tea bags
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups cold water or 32 ounces ice

Steps:

  • In a large pitcher add the sugar, and tea bags.
  • Add the boiling water and let the tea steep for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags, and stir the sugar and tea mixture together.
  • (cold water): Add the 4 cups of cold water and stir, refrigerate until cold. (about 4 Hours).
  • (ice): Add the ice and stir well. Serve over ice.

1 pinch baking soda
2 cups boiling water
6 tea bags
¾ cup white sugar
6 cups cool water

Steps:

  • Sprinkle a pinch of baking soda into a 64-ounce, heat-proof, glass pitcher. Pour in boiling water, and add tea bags. Cover, and allow to steep for 15 minutes.
  • Remove tea bags, and discard; stir in sugar until dissolved. Pour in cool water, then refrigerate until cold.

2 cups water
6 black tea bags
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup sugar
6 cups cold water

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove from the heat; add tea bags. Cover and steep for 10 minutes. Discard tea bags., Sprinkle baking soda into a 2-qt. pitcher. Transfer tea to pitcher; stir in sugar. Add cold water. Refrigerate until chilled.

This is how my Granny made sweet tea and it is some kind of sweet. Know that and beware. Pa-Paw used to down 2-3 glasses after working in the garden all day. Back off the sugar if you can't handle it. This one is for true southerners only ;)

6 regular tea bags
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups boiling water
1 1/2-2 cups sugar
6 cups cold water

Steps:

  • In a large glass measuring cup, place the tea bags and add the baking soda.
  • Pour the boiling water over the tea bags.
  • Cover and steep for 15 minutes.
  • Take out the tea bags and do not squeeze them.
  • Pour the tea mixture into a 2-quart pitcher; add the sugar.
  • Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Add in the cold water.
  • Let cool; chill in the refrigerator and serve over ice.
